This is Motor Trend's rendering. Nothing official. We can expect it to have Pontiac GTO wheels?
Exactly, Ford totally punked out with the SVT.I pray Focus ST vs. SRT Dart doesn't end up like SVT Focus vs. SRT-4 did.
Ford needs to have their finger on the RS trigger to counter this. Put the smack down like the GT500 has on the ZL1.![]()
I know. Just find it funny that was the choice they made. This is Motor Trend's rendering. Nothing official.
I think Ford had a whole lot of other issues going on at the time and didn't have the resources back then to make the SVT competitive...look at where Ford was at then financially and its products vs now...I'd think they are in a much better place to respond to "threats" like this...if they wanted.Exactly, Ford totally punked out with the SVT.
They shorted it on power and then killed off the car blaming slow sales when in fact they caused the slow sales with the lack of power. Very, very sad.
We know they have the ability to build a small car that will go toe to toe with anything anyone else can build so it's just up to Ford to find the will to actually build it this time.
They already had the car in production in Europe with the first gen RS, granted is wasn't a world beater but it was a giant leap beyond the SVT and it could have come here easily.I think Ford had a whole lot of other issues going on at the time and didn't have the resources back then to make the SVT competitive...look at where Ford was at then financially and its products vs now...I'd think they are in a much better place to respond to "threats" like this...if they wanted.
The new SRT4 is a complete unknown at this point, the uproar is about Chrysler giving it 300hp and since we already know Ford is giving us a 250hp ST we know the ST is going to be down on power.Isn't the ST going to be every bit as good (mechanically) if not better than the new SRT-4? I realize it's hard to say, given we know very little about this version of the Dart... but come on people... we haven't even seen the ST in the real world, and I'm seeing an attitude of "C'mon Ford, be better"
Even if the Dart has more power (chances are, it will) ... it takes more than power to make a hot version C-segmant, brilliant... and that's what this Dart needs to be. Brilliant.
IMO, we've seen enough of what makes up the ST to make me believe that the chassis dynamics will be brilliant
Let's hope the SRT engineers can work their magic to compete with the ST.
Either way, we, the enthusiasts win!
EDIT: That rendering is absolutely gorgeous.
