Winter Prep. :(

i'm confused...i don't want to sound mean but don't you guys own a Ford Focus?? I mean we drive front wheel drive cars that cost $12,000 or below ...its an economy car...storage seems like a waste IMO...why not just sell your neon or winter car and use the focus...or sell your focus and by an Impreza if you wanna drive something awesome in the snow...

Unless of course you guys are using a Jeep in the winter and in that case, hats off to ya.

I don't want to affend anyone...i understand some of you take great pride in your car but i take pride in a small car with a rally appeal...any condition...i've driven my car on construction sites because i like feeling my car can go on any terrain, except rocks...in that case..i'll use the jeep

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">It's much easier to put away and buy a beater for the winter. $500 and you can put away the Focus and then drive say... a Civic. That way if something did happen, it would be a Civic.

Right now all I have to remove is the intake and wheels, others have MUCH more and up here winters can be pretty nasty. As for the southerners, I envy you. No rust or winter prep. Lucky bastards.

WOW winter is coming. Damn I feel like it was just yesterday I enjoy the summer with my car. Now I have to prep for the winter. Yeahh... all I have to do is just remove my rims and put the stock 15" back, but I really hope the winter will not come.

I think everyone living in northern states will feel the same thing.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I can see your way of thinking too and I see the pro's and con's of both also. As for me I willl also be storing my car in a heated garage for the snowy season. My car would take way too many changes to bring it up to winter vehical status. Right now my car only sits 2.5 inches off the ground at the side skirts, and I've got prob close to $4000 into the aftermarket acc. and paint, let alone the time and effort I've put into it. And if you want to competitively show any vehical it's hard enough when you drive it everyday during the summer nevermind after it's seen a season or 2 of the New England winters.

Well hypocrisyB ZX3 from your sig it appears that you have no exterior mods done to your car. After you get some you will be thinking differently. Lowered cars don't seem to enjoy driving through 8 inches of snow. Sideskirts/bodykits don't like getting sandblasted with salt and gravel on the roads, and alloy wheels don't enjoy corrosion due to salt either. I had my other car previous to purchasing my focus. I decided that I wanted my focus for summer driving only and therefore I decided to keep my other for winter months. I just think it is a waste of time and money to mod a car and make it suffer through the road slop of winter months. But whatever, to each his own

As I said I was just curious as to why one would winterize their car. Things are little bit clearer now and I think some view their car quite differently than I do mine.

I would never make my car a show car mostly because I don't have the money or time to get into that. I respect those who do show their FOCI and I am jealous of their ability to do so.

Personally, I want 14 second Focus to drive to work everyday, beat GTP grand prix's/ older stangs....stuff like that.

Also, I have to admit the funnest thing in the world to me is screaming down a dirt road, taking a turn as fast as one can, hit the parking brake to get into a slide and power a way out of it. That's why I like my car because I can drive hard under alot of conditions....

I like driving my car, I broke my hand a while back and I've been driving my buddies modded Jeep...his ZJ destorys mine in acceleration right now and he's doing lots of work to it to come...but one day i know i'll beat him...maybe not off the line...but i'll find a way to catch him. I like my car alot, I feel I'd like an Impreza more because of the AWD platform and engine that they come with but i finally realized that half the fun of working on a car is the journey.

Sorry I know this is a little off topic but i wanted to let you guys know where i'm coming from...I apologize about how i came off in my previous post.

on the validity of preparing a focus for winter:

i drive a bone-stock focus. it's going to cost me $16,000 when i'm done paying it off. i do not make a lot of money. i would like this car to last me 5 years, and i know i can if i take care of it. good maintenance will save you thousands of dollars on any car.

unless you're spending $175 a tire for all-seasons, the cheapest winter tire will perform better than nearly any all-season. plus if you live somewhere like michigan where the plows indiscriminately dig up large chunks of pavement, wrecking your rims is not something you want to do. for a single wheel on my S2 i can buy a set of inexpensive winter wheels, plus have the peace of mind that i'm going to continue to be able to drive my son to school every morning without fear of sliding off the road. also, by winterizing my car i won't have to go spend another $16,000 in three years because my car is rusted through.

it doesn't matter what sort of car you drive. you should take care of what you have.
