and if I'm not mistaken, there was a post a long time ago about how BAT was willing to take a JBA or FS header and copy it... then sell for hella less. all you had to do was get it jet-coated. not rippin on BAT, just recalling what was posted.

I was just on ebay yesterday and there was EVOTEC offering a strut bar.....the pic is now of a different one than the "boosted" FocusSport pic. It was straight like the honda style..did not have the angles to fit our car. Definitely not what one would recieve in the mail. It is very possible they are selling a copy of a good product that is inferior. Do not buy from them.

What am I missing here? Granted this guy is pretty sleazy for copying someone else's work, but is it illegal? Does FS have a patent pending on this item? I don't think so, therefore, I beleive this sleazeball is within his rights to make this thing. Don't buy it (I won't) if you think he's wrong, but trying to stop the auction is going too far.

To Focus Sport,
There are ways of protecting your designs and products. I suggest you do that before going after this guy.

I'm not going to go into detail here, but according to my e-mails and phone calls from e-bay, they are very much against knock offs and counterfeit products. You may not agree with that, but I for one am glad that e-bay actually cares.

Damn! Don't mess with da Jet, beotch. Let's cripple this prick.

Well I got one off this guy, and it should arrive in a couple days. Guess I'll see if it's the real deal or not. Live and learn either way.

I would have purchased one straight from FS, but not for $25US UPS shipping. The another $20US when it arrives at my door. $150 US for a stress bar? That's almost half way to a new Ford Motorsport header......

Unfortunately a lot of retailers do not make their own products because it's too expensive to set up a shop to do so.

Instead they may have a design department and then sub the work out to a manufacturer who does all types of work.

If the design is not protected or someone holds the rights to it, it is not unusual for one company to sell a particular part with their logo on it while another vendor sells the same identical part except for the change of logo or no logo.

I do understand the concern and one should always be skeptical. However, this is how the world of manufacturing and retail do work.

The other thing is that the internet serves the world. Therefore since Europe had the Focus in 1999 and the US/Canada in 2000, it does make sense that this guy was selling a '99 and up stress bar.

Remember: Ford is Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Merkur, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Range Rover Trucks, Controls Mazda and there is a lot of sharing of parts. Clothing stores do this, Food stores do this, etc. This is not a unique situation, just you think you're buying something unique while you're really not. Take what I said as an example and not in the absolute.

i cant believe someone would just take a focussport bar and run a copy of it, with probably some cheap ass metal and try to make a profit, cause that sure does look like a focussport bar to me

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>"looks" good<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

But then you could get into the whole argument of whether or not the stress bar even does anything for the Focus.

And really, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to design a stress bar.
