I launch at 3 grand (if more than 4, I'll break traction, and one wheel spins b/c it's an open diff) and I shift around 6.

Just my $.02 for ya.

7100rpm for me

Just look at your dyno graph, shift about 300rpm after your peak HP, thats the general rule, ofcourse mine peaks at whenver the rev limiter kicks in because of my mods.....

I remember reading something before about shifting around 6500 for first gear because it goes so quick, but then 6000 for the rest for your best time...

actually stock limit is 6750rpm, your tach mine just be off a bit, do the digi readout and check that, its more accurate. Yeah, get 1st gear up to about 6200-6500rpm(if stock engine or slight mods that dont affect curve much) and the rest shift at 5900-6000rpm.

i did a research here before and a guy has actually calculated peak power with gear ratio
and the result is
1st to 2nd --> 6750rpm
2nd to 3rd --> 6000rpm
3rd to 4th --> 6500rpm

and he didn't calculate the 4th to 5th

The proof is in the pudding. These shifts points on a stock ZX3 will slow you down.

Take your car to the track and experiment with shift points. The most common mistake people make is shifting too high. The stock power peak is only 5300 on the Zetec. Ideal shift points (from hundreds of runs down the drag strip) are 300-400 rpm above the power peak. All you have to do is look at the stock power curve and see that it falls off like a rock above 5300. The car is not accelerating when you are on the down side of the power curve.
