IMO the key chip isn't going to make your car "very safe." I think that if anyone wants to steal the Focus they will succeed whether they have the key or not. I think the key chip should be part of a total package that may include additional active and/or passive devices.

I went into a 7-11 store a couple of nights ago and some idiot (and I apologize for calling you an idiot if you're a FocalJet member who did this) left his white ZX3 running in the parking lot while he was running in to pay for the gas. The key chip wouldn't have helped him if some thief decided to hop in, put it in gear, and drive off.

I really believe in the key...it works. I wish I still had pictures of the Ford Torneo van that we took to Italy and they tried to hotwire it...failed because of the key. The van was trashed. The entire steering colum was a mess. It got fixed and driven back up to London. 2 days later they tried to do it again...couldn't do it! I am a firm believer in Ford's chipped key.

if they want the car bad enough.. they will get it. if an S600 can get stolen.. and i am sure they do.. a focus can surely be stolen

key is pretty good, a fuel cut off switch can't hurt (this can be done with a flip chip according to chip guy!!!)

Just as omni focus stated "a chip won't stop a tow truck." That is one of the ways they steal cars. They will follow you to the store or work or something and one person will follow you in and talk to his buddy in the tow truck with a walkie talkie and when it is hooked up he will go out to his buddie and leave.

Can't work too well now can it

I think it was in the top 5 only for thefts of cars in that particular model year...but other cars on the whole are still stolen FAR more often than the Focus (eg. Civics, Preludes, etc.)

Thank you for your thoughts, the tow truck theory i can compleatly see,but for some one to get in and hot wire it seems to be impossible.the only thing i can picture is some one makes a hand held signal generator that could put out thousands of signals per second.at the same time the screw driver turns the broken ign.switch.But at least only nerds would have such a device.Thats why you should leave a chemistry set
on the front pass.seat and a cross word book to disstract him, till the proper authorities arrive.

in my roomates old civic he had to turn on the parking lights in order for the car to start. I thought thas was a cool idea
