Now that it is very cold here (teens for highs) my fan seems to be making a whine sound when set to the low setting and number 2, but stops at setting 3 and 4. The sound is almost like a worn out bearing, but I am confused at why it would stop at a higher speed. The sound is also not continuous but very random (especially on start up). How do you get to the fan to take it out? Should I make trip to the dealer? I really don't want them ripping my car apart. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Since alot of people have the same "problem", that tells me it is a normal characteristic and I wouldn't worry about it.

P.S. Mine does it too and I am not concerned.

If you guys can get in there and see the fan blades, check to see if there is any kind of debris in there causing a whistle that may sound like a whine. sometimes leaves or small pieces of paper get in there. Other than that it's probably bearings. Putting 3-in-1 oil on them may quiet them, if its warrenty, get it replaced!

just my 2 sense.

Thank you for the input, I guess it is probably just a combination of cold and poor design... oh well I still love my car. I might try the oil if it ever warms up. I'll let you know if it works.

I have the same problem, and am going to see about it at my next oil change at the dealer. I think it may be a thrust-type bearing problem, as it seems to happen mostly when turning left, sounds strange, but that's when I notice it happening.

OMG...bill i have the same heater fan noise when turning left on a really cold day too...I just figured there was a slight play in the fan assembly and that basically it a normal effect of less than perfect design...
