I've read that our stock SVT wheel is around 22 1/2 lbs. I know many foc's are looking for winter wheels/tires. Is this a crazy Idea?

look for 12-15 (or so) lb 16" rim to stick nice 'n meaty winter rubber on. Then come summer throw on some light weight sticky to-go-to-the-track rubber on. (autoX, solo, etc)

I think changing rim sizes from stock could change a car class or add points or something for racing but a lighter smaller diameter wheel (yeah i know it's only 1") has to have a tangible difference. btw I'm still trying to find a way to get track time

The best way for me to gain track time was to enroll in the evolution performance driving school.I took school in fla.but I just noticed they are offering the school in N.Y. (in the 718 area code) I put several years worth of solo2 laps on in two days and improved my skills at the same time.If your interested go thier site at www.autocross.com/evolution
As far as the wheels, I would be interested in what you can find out about a 16x7 light weight with the proper offset. The 16 inch will help get off the corners better than 17's and thats what this focus needs because of the gearing. It seems that most track layouts in auto cross are too much for first gear and second boggs down to much and down shifting is not always an option.
I am running in sts class and the wheel change will not be a problem as they alow any wheel up to 7.5" wide as long as they fit over the stock brakes. Please keep us advised -Bill

Probably the best, light weight, affordable 16's you will find will be the Rota's.

Bill...I'm thinking about taking a weekend to do the Evolution driving school. All I need to do is save some money for the course, hotel, and a set of tires.

Guys, check over in the GB forum for Rotas! There is some good guys going on over there with one of the members. Zonker is the only one I know that you can get Rotas from with our 4x108 pattern. Rota custom drilled them for him.

Slipstreams, Subzeros and Attacks are in the GB's

According to the 2002 SVT Focus Owner's Guide Supplement the approved wheel and tire specifications are:

Tire size:

215/45 R 17 & 205/55 R 16

Recommended Wheel

17" Original Equipment wheel (17" x 7") or equivalent.

Ford 1S4Z-1007-BA (16" x 6") or equivalent.

The equipped spare is a T125/85 R 16

I plan on moving down to 16" tires for winter

FORD FOCUS FACTORY ALUMINUM RIMS
THE DIMENSIONS ARE 16"x6", 4 LUG, 4-1/4" BOLT PATTERN AND A 52.5mm OFFSET

found this on ebay under wheels,

is 4-1/4" bolt pattern the same as 4-108
what exactly does the bolts pattern mean? 1/4" lug 108mm lug? 4 of them

I'm thinking about buying them or a set like them for my winter wheels.
Maybe painting them or doing somthing to black em out.
