K&N is developing a short ram and a cold air intake using my SVT and 2 others. They will be dyno tested, I will see the dynos, and I will tell you what the gains are. 90 days after R&D completion, they will market the finished product. All 3 participants will receive a free intake for their trouble, dyno results, and a rental car for the period that their car is used. If you are in the Riverside, CA, area, i would recommend joining me up there. My car is going up Dec 2-6.

this was the first time i have ever gone to the track without a digital video camera, and now i am regretting it >

i have a digital camera right now, i can take a pic of my engine to show its completely stock, and i can assure you that the only thing that was NOT in the car was the spare. got a fax machine? i got the slip, too. below are the rest of the stats. and next time, i will record the runs. fair enough?

And the rest you know

very nice! maybe k&n will be smart enough to put the pcv tube higher than aem did. still waiting on the injen though. but if k&n comes out first, and the bang for the buck i good enough, maybe i'll get one.

there are dynomanometer readings for AEM's short ram (about 3 hp peak gain) and CAI (about 5 hp peak gain) on www.focuscentral.com or www.focussport.com i can't remember which. i'll tell you what the gains are from K&N's systems... i'm optomistic that there will be at least a 3-5 hp gain

First time I took my car to track, that was the best I could squeeze out after 16 runs, had AEM CAI, and backseats removed, I couls see these times in a stock focus with seats removed, as I had huge traction issues, but no way without seats out, my best with seats and everything in was 15.6, until I started modding. But if you got that with backseats in, either the timer was of or your focus is faster out of the box than anyone else's. Hopefuly you can see why I am so skeptical, as no one else even comes cose to a 15.3 with al seats in and no mods. Also your trap spped, with that and a good launch you could get into high 14.9's, I have to say no way.

Didn't you just say you're getting like 12-14 mpg, it stalls, bogs and dies all the time, and in general you have boat loads of problems?

Its cool you'll get a free intake out of it, but if it were me, I'd have my car in the shop non-stop till all those other issues were addressed.

Good luck with the intake though.

This is a tempting offer too! Hmmm...

Hey who ever goes up there be sure and let them know about all the problems with AEMs CAI. i.e. oil draining back in to the air filter and MOST important not having some kind of splash guard included in the kit! And the rubbing on the clutch cable...stuff like that...be sure to mention splash guard! First company to have splash guard included in kit I will buy and get rid of this AEM thing! Thanks. Keep us updated I love K&N and wish they had a CAI out when I was looking for one!

hahaha i wish it would run 12's... perhaps the "problems" are HELPING for some weird, strange, and inexplicable reason... i hope when the dealer "fixes" it it doesn't get slower... that would suck balls...
again, i don't know what to tell you about your times compared to mine or whatever. next saturday i'll have the results of the dyno, and i'll tell you what HP it's pushing. in the meantime, if you're in the riverside area, drop james a line. the sooner he gets his third car, the sooner they can complete the R&D, and the sooner the K&N cold air kit can get on the market. and on my car

the dealer did a mileage test. is 15-17 mpg city and 15-19 mpg highway normal for anyone else? also, how can i post a picture on here from my cpu? i want to show that a stock SVT does NOT have a 135 mph top speed.
thanks

andrew

Do you have a digital camera, if you do, its easy. Are you saying your car won't do 135, mine did close to 140 out of the box. That's weird that your car is so quick in the quarter, but falls flat at higher end?

post info on the k&n when u get it, how much u think it'll cost? and definately mention about the oil leaking back in and the rubbing on cables and stuff, thats what lead me not to get an aem

(I want to show that a stock SVT does NOT have a 135 mph top speed.)

sorry svo_dave, what I meant is that it goes well over 135. I am trying to get dj sures to host my pics so I can post them... and i got video too (ON THE TRACK OF COURSE).

I have written down the suggestions from AEM owners, and I will bring them up with James when I get to Riverside.
-Splashguard on filter
-Oil drain into the filter
-Rub on clutch (and other) cables
Anything else?

It is in the shop right now, so we should find out the cause pretty soon.

The intake manifold has been replaced, and I am bringing the car back up to Riverside ASAP to continue the R&D on the intake...

However, the R&D team still needs two other SVT's to dyno to confirm gains; if there is anyone interested, remember that you will get a free intake after K&N starts production, and that before/after dyno results and a rental will be provided.

Any questions, contact James at Jamesy@knfilters.com
