Is Aerocharger officially dead or is there any chance of a guy getting one?
Or is it even worth it?
How about the Hardcore performance turbo kit? I emailed them a while ago but have yet to see any pics. Is it just me or is the $5000 U.S. price tag a little steep.

the word on the street is "stay away from aerocharger". they have not responded to e-mails or phone calls. tons of blown engines.
talk to turbo tom and spend the extra money for his kit. we have heard nothing but good news about his product and he knows his stuff.

Where'd you hear $5000?

P-51 has been able to reach Jim at Aerodyne, but others seem to be having trouble.

I am asking the GURUS if they feel this kit is worth this much or should a person go a different route.

The reason people have been unable to reach areocharger is beacise they are working on a mass production prject for a large corporation(car company I believe) - And they are extremely busy because of it.

This is also the reason kits have not been able to be ordered for a while now - I am pretty sure he said something about the end of the year being a slow period - Or something to that affect.

Hopefully he can find some time and give us an update.

Aerocharger is not dead, they have just been busy on ramping up production for a small vehicle.

Is it worth it? Depends what your goals are. If you want a fast daily driver, it's a good kit. If you're doing autocross or rally, it's a good kit. If you're looking for a monster horsepower drag race machine, it won't satisfy you.

Can you get one? Hard to say. They have been reorganizing for quite a while now. I talk to them every other week, and they are still alive, it's just taking a long time.

It's hard to set a date on when they will be available again however.

I might have mine for sale if you're interested. You wouldn't have to worry about duty, etc... But I have to send it back to be repaired before I could sell it. It's on my car and working, but I hurt it when I was on a racetrack a few months ago. I'll be sending it back for a rebuild, and then I have to decide if I keep it or sell it.

Wow P I thought you were running way less boost. Was it a boost control problem that lead to 12+ or are you now running it fairly close to that high?

BTW I have hit about 14 once (don't know exact RPM) for a very short instant on the dyno, and 13 quite a few times during a spike on the road. No apparent damage.

No, I was trying to run 7psi with the checkball boost controller. Don't forget, I've probably been torturing my engine and turbo with the Pectel. I don't have an EGT gauge, and that's probably a crime. I've probably been throwing some pretty high EGTs at this thing, that might have done some damage.

Also, I was running super super rich for a while. I was leaving sooty stains on my driveway. I wouldn't be surprised if I really clogged the vanes with soot, so they couldn't open all the way. Then when I was on track, and I needed to open them more than I ever asked for before, they couldn't. That's what I find. Boost control is fine normally, but if I really start caning the thing, and it gets really hot, it can't control it anymore.

That what I think really happened. The vanes only worked within maybe 70% of their normal range while I was tuning. The last maybe 30% of the movement is clogged with soot because it never moved there during tuning. Now that I needed it to, it can't.

Anyway, it shot up to 12+ PSI (I was on track, and didn't know I had a problem at first, I wasn't watching until it started making funny noises.)

Also, I was running with the PCV disconected, and so I had a big boost leak. So that would artificially increase the CFM it had to pump. That could have done it too.

A lot of possibilities.

I will be sending the turbo back for repairs, and either selling the kit, and buying the manifold and a T3 from JPStools. Or, I'll reclock the AC and hang it off a JPStools manifold.

I just have to decide if I want to go with a T3, or keep the AC. I'm not sure yet.

It probably depends on what the damage was. If it was too much heat, or something like that, then I will repair it and sell it. If it was just clogged with soot, then I'll probably repair it and keep it. Because my car doesn't smoke like a diesel anymore!
