This engine is going in the Focus? The exhaust and intake are backwards now.

That header is awesome looking but it looks like it is going to get very hot.

This new engine is awesome!

Ignore the backward in/out mani layout the Majority of focus in europe are sold with the 1.6 and 1.4 they also have the exhaust to the rear layout. they will need to retool the assembly plants, not sure exactly why.

as seen in this picture.

the engine mounting for the engine is made for the focus TRA engine mounts. the particular smoothness of the new engine should allow for firmer mounts.

supper deep skirt block, structural oil pan and timing chain cover. oil changes will be a piece of cake on this engine.

I really want to the 1.8 in the focus for the Fleets and the Eco minded.

One of the Brit Car Magazines (EVO, CAR, not sure) had one of those compare tests, the new Mazda6 and 4 or 5 other saloons. The Mazda6 won overall, and they really liked the 1.8. The Mondeo also did well. I have a question about the weight of the duratec he. Various posts have stated a 40 pound weight advantage over the zetec. However, some specs I've read said the 1.8 and 2.0 only had 4 counterwieghts on the crank, while the 2.3 was fully counterweighted. I beleive that might make it a bit heavier than the 2.0. Does anyone have pictures they could post of the bottom end of the 2.3?

The mazda 2.3 has balancer shafts. The Ford 2.3 won't.

large I4s need balancer shafts. the 2.3 Isn't rough without but not as refined as it is with it. the 2.0 and 1.8 don't need it. the reciprocating weight of the engines is low.

Crankshaft.

And the really good news is that since Ford will be putting Duratecs into a 2003 Focus before the big 2004 update, a swap into a 2000-2002 model will be even easier. If the 2004 changes a lot of things, I think many people will look to the 2003 PZEV as the way to get the Duratec HE into their early car. Never a bad thing.

stainless steel 4->1 header pay attention to the diameter of the manifold.

the duratec 2.3 is a v6 right? dont think thats a 4 to 1 header there... this way a focus can run true dual exaust and it wont be a waste of money like it would be on the zetec. right?

WTF look at the picture? do you see a V there? count how many pipes are coming out of the engine? 4! how many spark plugs? 4!

Thanks for informing us that it isn't a 4->1 header, even though it is a 4 ->1 . Dual exhausts are a waste on 4 cylinder engines.

Well there is definitely 4 intake runners.

The intake runners are going to be nice and cold at the front with the fan blowing on it.

I would like to see a JRSC in the front. That would be sweet.

Ideal location to keep things cool.

Off Topic:
Ford should sell this engine to BMW for the MINI Cooper. So much better than the Pentagon SOHC that is currently in the MINI.

I have finnally Looked at a 2003 Focus they are really nice.

The headlamps Are not From the SVT The SVt lamps are black while the 03's are grey, Aprox liquid grey.

The !5in wheels are carryovers from 2002 so the Same 10 spoke 15in and the Multi spokes from The ZTW.

The Fabric is improved on the ZTS, ZX5, and ZTW.
The prmiem fabric is the same used on the Japanes Focus. it's textured a step above the mouse fur used on the LX and SE.

The LX and SE use last years ZX5 seats.

Image

The ZX5 base and comfort will have the ZX3 seats and the ZX5 premium the ZTS seats.

Ford is limiting Colors to only 6 on Vase ZX5,ZX3, and LX.

That's great news that the headlights will be approx liquid grey, should go great with my liquid grey 2003 zx3, wooooo! Can't wait!
Thanks for the info Biker-dude.
Any closeups on the lights?
