Ford and SVT have stated the target is under 3000 pounds. Hey you doubt Ford could build a car lighter than a Ferrari hu???? its thoughts like that that encouraged the orginal.
Just because that is the target doesn't mean that's what we'll see. How many times have we seen manufacturers target XX hp and YY weight, only to fall short of those stated goals. Now for some comparison:
2003 NSX 3153lbs 290hp
2003 Z06 3118lbs 405hp
2003 Viper 3357lbs 500hp
2003 Boxster S 2855lbs 250hp
2003 911 Turbo 3395lbs 415hp
2001 360 Modena F1 hardtop 3064lbs 400hp

I only see one sports car under 3000lbs (excluding things like the MR2 and Miata) so I doubt Ford will reach their goal of 3000lbs. I'd guess Ford will deliver the GT at a weight of 3300-3400lbs and not too much more than 500hp, definitely not over 550hp.

3300-3400 is kinda high.Look at the Z06 at like 3100LBS, Ford can make a car lighter then that and 3000lbs seems right to me from the materials there using and the size of the car.The Corvette is a good size car,I have been in them, around them and they are quite big and if they only weigh that much for a car that costs $50000 i think Ford can make it a little lighter and stuff for a price near $150000 and make it 500HP if not more it it turns our to be underrated

Re: How Ford\'s GT40 became just the GT

I had just read some more about the cars, tons of alluminum and pleanty of new composites being tested. I would think the 3000 pd mark will be met. Time will tell.

The dammn Cobra Motor was in MM&FF yesterday they had a set of BBK long tubes and a h-pipe with a muffler swap that motor running less boost than the GT40 and less discplacement went from a pre dyno 368 wheel horse power to over 400... If I remember right it was something like four hundred and fourteen whell horses. Thats some crazy ****! I can guarentee you that with the extra boost etc this car will turn 500 or better.

On FORD at LeMans I dont think so. Nothing to prove. Porsche said it best when asked a bout a factory effort. They stated they would remain in motorsports but would not enter LeMans as their really is no competition. That Audi is the only ones to race. I couldnt agree more. Its no where near the venue it once was and manufactures really dont get the advertising they can get elsewhere. Hell it aint even on tv!.

However I bet a Roush car running against Stevie Saleen might be on some peoples minds!

That's really too bad, but if you take a look at the early 60's Ford's many were simply called the Ford-GT.
