they are a classic favorite- I had multiple sets over the years on a few different cars (VW's)....they are still a good choice for a summer high-performance tire or STS autocrosser.....
they aren't on the cutting edge anymore...but the bonus there is they are a far better value than ever- especially when compared to newer releases. their mileage is completely inline with their treadwear number so don't expect super-long life...

AVS Sports are the 4th best tire available in my opinion. This list is based on ultimate performance only.
#1.) S-03 Pole Position
#2.) Pilot sport
#3.) S-02 pole Position
#4.) AVS Sport
#5.) P-Zero Rosso
#6.) Sport 9000
#7.) Toyo T1S

Luke- ultimate performance?
I understood the BFG G-Force KD was the king of the no-compromise performance street tire, is it not?- or is it kind of in between a street and comp. category?

One of my friends has a 2000 ZX3, he has the Yokohama AVS Sport tires, he says the are the best tires he has ever bought. He claims if you want to put your hp to the ground, use those tires, they are well worth the money.

I very rarely drive in the rain, and when I do, I drive like I do on my motorcycle. Very slow, and very smooth. So as long as I don't hydroplane and can stop in a decent distance I'm ok. Austin, TX doesn't see much anual rainfall.

Buuuuut...you have to have a 17" wheel to fit them. There is no 215 or 205/50/16.

Luke, what do you think of the KDW? They are DIRT cheap (Only $95) in 215/50/16 but its not a max performance tire. Is it worth it or should I go ahead and grab one from the above list (205/55/16 is the closest match). Road noise doesn't matter to me, and I don't think I can afford anything over $160 a tire.

Thanks!

The KD is in a class of it's own that's why I do not include in most of the performance tire ratings. The "KD" stands for
"Key Performance Dry" so it is not very versatile. It is as close to a race tire as you can get while still being a street tire.
