Current MODS:
1.Ford Racing Adjustible Cam Gears
2.Ford Racing Crank Pulley
3.AEM Altinator Pulley
4.AEM Short Ram Intake
5.Gold Line Springs 1.5" Drop
6.Revolution Carb-Fiber Exhaust

The only way to go =====> Aerocharger stage 3 or 4.

I too would recomend the Aerocharger kit. With the new fuel management that it comes with you will be seeing 200hp/240 ft lbs to the ground. Plus the boost is there instantly, and it's a no-hassle kit (compared to many turbo kits that is).

but with the aerocharger isn't that the highest it can go. 200hp/240torq?

The Aerocharger is not what it is cracked up to be. I mean, don't get me wrong it is good for not so serious people.

On the Aerocharger, they use a 5th injector which is ok, but not great for hardcore racing. And even if you want more fuel, you can't run more boost on the Aerocharger. It is maxed out around 9 psi. So that is why the 5th injector is enough, and it is also a cheaper way to do things.

The only way you are going to make REAL power is to go with a bigger turbo, stand alone fuel management, and upgrade the rods. With this setup you can make upwards of 300 hp at the wheels, possibly more.

This would be the F-Max kit with the Pectal unit, with stronger rods. Then you can up the boost to like 15-18 psi and that is where you make power.

My friend is running the F-Max kit on his 4-door sentra, and has 363 hp at the wheels. He ran a 12.45@114 on slicks of course. The way to get those kind of numbers is not with an aerocharger.

But, all of those things can be upwards of 5 to 6 grand, but if that is what kind of results you want, then that is what you need to pay.

you know the more i think about fast cars the more i realize that i will stick with the aerocharger, heres the reason.

In our cars, 200whp for street driving is about as much as you wanna go. Be real, how often do you really race your focus? You say for the hardcore racer who wants real power. For that person, they would also probably wanna start out with a racier car. You dont buy the focus to be the fastest out there, you can go buy a used supra twin turbo for $16000, put 5G's into the engine and run 11s all day with 600WHP. The other 99% of the time you are on the street, at least most of the focaljetters are.

Now, with a kit pushing 15psi and a bigger turbo, its like on/off. Up to 4000rpm you are stock. Then it hits really fast and hard, but in our cars redline is 6500, so you shift before you enjoy all the power. That is a race car to me. Thats no fun on the street. Also, AS A STREET CAR, and i do mean street car, not just street LEGAL, anything more than 200whp on a front wheel drive and a car not designed for it, will be a pain in the ass. I drove a turbo focus with 190hp and it was a blast and should satisfy most focus drivers. The car would shread first and second to redline, those gears were useless at WOT. So imagine more power? and the torque even with the aerocharger will be more than enough for the street. 240ft/lb to the wheel in our cars? Can you imagine that? Thats huge.

Also, this is a no brainer turbo. No oil lines nothing.

Another huge factor. Most of us wanna stay street legal. This kit is 100% street legal. What else?

Once you go for more power and more boost, you cant do it like the honda guys. WIth us, you must get a whole new stand alone system, which, if you guys didnt know, costs $2700, for just the unit. Add a fuel pump, fuel injectors and hours upon hours of tuning and dynos. Youre looking at about $4000 for just the management part. Add a turbo kit to that, say fmax(NOTHING AT ALL AGAINST THEM) just using as example of a kit because it can be tuned. That is about $3500. Now you will need rods and pistons with that, say another $1000. Ofcourse most people stop at this. A car with 130hp from the factory , has a transmition/axles/bearings/brakes/cooling/clutch designed for about that, maybe a bit more. but not 300hp+. So upgrading all that either at the beggining or waiting till they brake, will be nesesary. So you see, going over that 200WHP poses a huge job most dont think about, trust me, i didnt think about it in the first place. But when the bill reaches $10000 just to put it all together, i start reconsidering. Most people bought the focus because of the price, not to tune it. If i knew i was gonna spend all that money, i would have bought an extra side car to make strickly for speed. The focus with all that, probably still wont break past the high 12's on the street. I can make a supra or RX7 go low 12's for under a grand. REALLY. My friend just bought a 1995 supra TT. After some tweaking(this car is amazin), a manual boost controller, intake, exhuast, upgraded some pipes and someo other little things, he raced my friends dads ZR1, and beat him , and that zr1 consistently runs a flat 13 at the track up here. So speed is not the first thing on the minds of focus owners.

But after owning it for over a year, some of us(ME) want more speed out of it. I think for 200whp, a $3000 kit is worth it, thats not too much. Because the fun of driving a 200whp focus, trust me, should last for a while, until my next car. If the aerocharger proves to be all what it should be, if hte 5th injector proves to be reliable and if all the tubes fit, to me its a winner.

Plus on the street, you want the power whenver you press the gas, always. With a huge turbo setup, youre not too much different than NOS.

I also think that the aerocharger stage 3 with the 5th injector and a few other bolt ons, some sticky street slicks is good for mid 13's. Theres a stage 2 with no intercooler runing 15.3 at 6000ft, which equates to low 14's, and thats at like 6psi!!!! So its the aerocharger for me from what things look like now.

Thats my .02

All I am saying is that the F-max kit has the upgradability to be over 300 hp, you can't do that with the aerocharger. Whatever it is, it is. At 7 psi or whatever, you are going to make boost real low (look at SCC: Project Rally) With that, they said they didn't need the extra fuel, they made 187 hp, and about equally matched torque. That is ABOUT the same as the aerocharger, but the F-Max kit has upgradeability. You will be making about the same power, until you want to dump more money into the car. But until then, you have a equally strong street car.

As far as turning the boost on and off like NOS, yes this is true. You can't turn the boost up on any car without the proper fuel. Considering you have new rods and pistons and the fuel management system, when you get to the track, mount up the slicks, fill up on C-16 race gas, and crank up the boost. You know you will have fun when you pull up to a Viper and whoop his ass in a Focus.

I mean, my friend beat a viper at Firebird Raceway in his 4-door Nissan (see above). He ran a 12.82 and the Viper ran a 12.89. I mean the crowd was amazed that a 4 cylinder could beat a Viper.

If you want that kind of power and want that kind of reward, then the aerocharger is not going to cut it. I mean on the street it is good, but don't you want to go to the track and beat most of the v-8's? That is what I am looking for, where you turn up the boost and put in race gas, and then you turn into a low 12 second car. While being able to say you turned a 12 second pass, and then being a strong street car with 92 octane, that is an accomplishment.

I am thinking also to run a Aerocharger but wondering ( I dont have any info) if it comes with a new engine managment system so that the check engine light wont come on and how reliable is it as a daily driver?

I'm not saying right off the bat i want 300+ hp, i'm just saying i want 200+hp w/my turbo kit. It would be nice to be able to go farther with the turbo when the time came though. I mean once you get used to 200 hp then sooner or later you want more, and more. Plus YES I did get the Focus to soup the **** out of it. For once theres a car out there that isn't a sports car that I can soup up and it's not a Honda. Plus you have to admit it is funner to beat a high powered car with a lower powered car

With what I know of the aerocharger, there shouldn't be any reason the cel should come on. Also, I've heard reliability is very good. I drive 500 miles a week and really think this turbo is the way to go for me. I really do need the reliability.

Show me a 20PSI turbo car that can autocross worth a crap?

Real racers turn too!

And 400hp 2.0 liter engines with turbos the size of basketballs are not the solution for racing outside of a straight line. And they probably aren't much fun for a low revving street car either.

So while you may think that the guy with a 12.5 second mega turbo nitrous four banger is the shizzy at the drag strip (I'd be damn impressed too), he'd probably be laughed at (and lapped) racing a couple laps on the tight course at Texas Motor Speedway or at the airport plowing through cones at your local autocross.
Image
So depending on what type of racing is interesting to you (seems like drag racing is not a Focus' strength considering its FWD with a smaller 2.0 liter displacement engine with limited front tire width), your "ultimate" setup might be sorely lacking the performance characteristics required for each venue. So some people with smaller quick spooling turbos ARE serious... [rant]they ARE serious about -performance for a well rounded car- and not a single purpose straight line screamer.[/rant]

Aim for a certain hp, THEN decide how you want to attack it. I was aiming for 180-200fwhp even before the Aero came out, as I figured that was about as high as you could go before you really sacrificed for tight course racing with a bigger turbo. But if all you are interested in is drag racing, go buy a 35th Anniversary Edition Camaro SS... I mean... just slap a V8 sized turbo on there and use nitrous to pre-spool the mo'fo'.

(BTW, just checked out the new SS yesterday and its neat)

We should see some better fuel management coming down the road without the aftermarket fuel systems for 2500 and the additional injectors. Mustangs run 6 to 20 lb boost with a properly calibrated mass air unit and bigger injectors and fuel pump your set.The focus is a problem because it doesn't have a return on the fuel system but some one will come up with something for it.

Upgradeabilty or not, it's not just the turbo you'll need to upgrade for that level of performance (rods for sure). Take that into account also (='s mo money).

For close to 200/240 out of an engine with stock internals from the AC kit, I'm all over it...now if I could just get that money saved a little faster...

Don't forget, its all based on what you want to do. Me, I'm never going to be spending weekends at the track dragging, but I want an easy, more peppy upgrade. That states Aerocharger for me.

If you have the potential for taking it to the strip, then go FMax (or like such).

From what FocusCobra stated, it looks like the FMax turbo would suit him best.

oh id love a 300hp focus too, but you will be sacrificing lots of things to get that. Drivability will suck, it wont be like driving a 300hp corvette, it will be like driving a car designed only for the 1/4mile. The problem with this argument is most people have access to drag racing parts but not too many get to race around a full track, only then would they recognize what this car is made for and how overall fun that is. Then when you beat corvetes, mustangs and ferrarris around a track, its even more embarrasing for them.

So i dont know. If the Fmax out of the box will put out around 200hp/200ft/lb of torque then it will be a harder argument. If it sppools early too, its even harder.

So you guys seem to say I should go with F-Max and some say Aerocharger. What type of specs do you get out of the F-Max out of the box?

not clear yet, no official testing, but they are looking for a stock focus to take in and put hte street kit on and tune and test, so hopefully we should see some results SOON!!!

You will get the same results with the F-Max kit as the aerocharger. But, the F-Max has upgradability, and doesn't require a 5th injector or the cheaper fuel managment system the aerocharger uses. But, if you want more boost out of the f-Max, then you will have to upgrade a lot of stuff. But, out of the box, it will be the same as the aerocharger and make full boost (7psi) around 3000 rpm. And with that turbo you can have the potential of turning the boost up past 9 where the aerocharger stops.

Alright 300hp is outrages for a daily driver that is in the range of Super Touring Cars and Rally cars. I can understand if your looking for bragging rights but to start from our platform and spend that much money for a Stage 3 Aerocharger/Turbo you might as well trade in your stock ZX3 for the SVT and build from there.
180 to 200HP is enough for me and will still beat some of the posers out there.
