He asked if it was possible, not if it was cheap.

The answer is "yes, with a lot of massaging, strengthening, and internals, you could probably get 275 out of it"

I don't think 200 is out of the question. Like it's been said before, www.raceline.co.uk sells 200+ BHP Zetecs. All motor. NA. Whatever you wanna call it.

If I can get 200+ out of my Escort LX without a turbine, why the hell couldn't someone get that out of a Focus? Especially a Zetec powered Focus, but hell...why not the SPI for that matter?

You nay-sayers need to take a chill pill. Turbo and N2O are not the only 2 go-fast options in the mix.

I'm sure it can be done. I'm going 210 HP All motor with my CVH 1.9 Liter in the Escort. I just got a bead on a shop that can get real Chrome/Molybednum sleeves in my engine too. The other shop I was going to use "couldn't" do Chromoly sleeves.

It is hard to squeeze it for that much (money wise) but It's sooooo worth it.

This is my current and planned setup on the Escort, engine wise:

Stuff I've Done, in process of doing:

New Clutch (in progress)
Energy Suspension Bushings
Custom cat-less exhaust (currently off the car because it was too much torque for the clutch)
Custom programmed Chip
Modified airbox with Ram Air and K&N Panel Filter
Custom intake piping from airbox to TB
8MM Plug Wires
Platinum Spark Plugs

I have a few "Secret Mods" that are currently on the car which I won't disclose, but it's all motor, the escort's never seen a blower or N2O. It's Intake related and no it's not a "tornado"

On the list:

Spare engine I'm working on: (in my garage, blown rings on #4) A local guy can milk the 1.9L for about 210 Horsepower @ 7200 N/A. 235 ft/LBS @ 5100,

Bored & Moly Sleeved to original displacement
O-ringed
Blueprinted, balanced, (maybe knife-edged) crank shaft and connecting rods
high compression pistons
Custom underdrive pulley
Custom Ground camshaft
Ported/polished head (slightly decked for compression)
Larger injectors
High flow fuel pump
Larger Valves, stainless
alloy valve seats
Tighter springs and stainless valvetrain components
Another custom program for the new setup (cheap cuz I have the chip, just need to flash it)

The whole setup when I'm done will probably run about $8,000 since I already have a completely functional (albeit a GIMP engine with #4 not having any compression) engine to throw at the project.

I don't see why this would be so hard. Look at the posts from Focus Central with thir head package. 160 - 170 whp with head, cams and some other basic bolt-ons. I think pushing near that 200 mark shoudl be relatively simple and stroking it woulnd't be necesary. From what I recall their head brought compression up from 9.6:1 to 9.7:1. That leaves a LOT of room. Also the dynos didn't have the power curve moved up much at all. Power still fell off right at 6000 RPM so the over revving part is kind of a moot point.

Head, cams, and how many 'basic bolt ons'? Did you get a price breakdown on how much it cost just to achieve 160-170whp? $1000, $2000, $3000? Adding 30 whp on -top- of that for a 2.0 liter engine is no laughing matter. Its going to be a lot more than tuning their cam gears. And that 200fwhp NA engine needs to adopt the same type of fuel systems as forced are doing with that much power (although 5th injector wouldn't add much cost to the total package).

Anything can be done with enough green rectangular paper... but if it were so 'simple', it would already have been done.

yes it can be done but No longer would the car be a Zetec engine..........nor would you be able call it a sub compact or focus for that matter
it would be 1 hell of a project and tons of money to make it that way and still be beaten by others with less money/work involved.....

if your wanting NA ability get an Import, there made to reach 300+ for same money it would take to get the Focus to 200.......

Yup... 400whp could be done turbo too, but usually if someone asks the question in Forced Induction forum... you get a reality check first about cost and what you are sacrificing. An educated consumer is a better consumer.

And in the end, hopefully a happy consumer with the right expectations going into it.

Raceline would probably be the way to go (injected models, as I don't think you'd be happy with the carbs) for a reliable race ready 200whp engine. With current conversion rate, its $9,199.88 + shipping and installation. Transmission should be fine, but it would be recommended to look at a new clutch and LSD (4.06 final drive and lighter flywheel would be nice options). Its not that 'simple' though, and there are costs involved. Thats all anyone's saying.

headwork(no compression increase yet)
crane stage 2 cams
4-2-1 race header
stock flexpipe!!
catback
cam gears
1 UDP(no water pump pulley on yet)
proMAFS
diablo chip
TB

still needs intake manifold(by itself should add about 10whp to the above package)
more fuel tuning, bigger injectors
more cam gear tuning
more intesnse headwork with higher compression in teh 10's and 190-200whp on that motor will be possible, not easy, but possible

im going for 180whp tops with my NA project for now, than later, slap on a modest supercharger, at a low 6psi or so, and aim for about 230-240whp of clean, smooth power baby

just ask anyone adding 30ponies on a lil focus is ALOT of fun, and very rewarding
but like Naz I am shooting for the 170-185(max) NA power........adn well after that I'l see what is available

Dan said you guys are going to be in pro stocknext year. Good luck. There are going to be a lot more cars in that class this year. Quite a few of them picked up major sponsorship and some are going to be factory backed.
