I raced a 1996 Eclipse last night twice. And lost both times. He has 5 sp. with double overhead cam 4 cyl. with no mods, me an auto. He got a slight lead on take off but never pulled away after that. Any suggestions on next mod for me to gain that little extra off the line. Oh, by the way the owner of the Eclipse was my 23 year old son so he gave me no slack about beating me either.

oh and if its a GSX..its an AWD Turbo...so dont be dissapointed..those bastards are hard to stay with..

I wouldn't be dissapointed at all. The GSX is all wheel drive and comes with a 220hp turbocharged 4 cylinder(I believe). So I say

to you.
Good job!

If i'm not mistaken all GS-X's are turbo AWD. I don't think that a focus unless turbo'd or supercharged up would have a chance at it. A friend of mine had a GST and i Never had a chance at him and it was only a two wheel drive. I would say that it is either an RS or GS cause there is two motors they come with, the 2.0L DOHC and the 2.3?L SOHC. The DOHC is faster than the SOHC and we can beat either one with a focus if not run right along side with him. Most RS's are easily beaten in a focus.

Done that a few times.

Damn, i guess he knows about the GSX being all wheel drive now, i was writing as ya'll were posting.

on the matter of next mod i would say go with cams and cam gears i don't know which one would give you better of the line as far as mods go but cam and cam gear would give you nice power gains or really piss off your son and just go nos hehe that would be fun.

gess this thread will be closed soon. You know how everyone feels about "Track" racing.

dude...im sorry to say but i think you raced the GS eclipse, no turbo, no AWD> A GSX would have murdered you, not just taken a jump. You have an auto? AN auto focus, unfortunately, is a VERY SLOW CAR, even the eclipse GS will take you. I raced a GS eclipse, when i was stock and i have a manual, and i wasnt beatin him, ofcourse, now i challange GSXs but thats after many mods. SO, if it was a GSX for sure, he would have jumped 10 car lengths on you before you got to 2nd gear

I was thinking the same thing....Since you barely lost twice. I would say that Nitrous would do the trick.

yeah...a stock auto focus DOESNT barely loose to a GSX< i drove those, they are damn fast. IF he was racing, he would have jumped about 5 car lenghs in the first gear, seriously, i raced my friends GSX who only has an intake, and to about 60mph, he had like 4 car lengths on me, and i had mods, ofcourse now i have more mods, and i can stay with him, if i drive well enough, but those cars are tough, they are really quick

Amen. My friend has an Eagle Talon TSi AWD with only an upgraded BOV, open element filter, bigger front mount intercooler, no cat, bigger downpipe and a free flow exhaust. By the time I see 30 on my car, he's probably doing 70!! Holy crap those things are fast.
Don't be disappointed if you loose to a turbo Eclipse. An automagic focus is not on the same performance level as one of those.

thought the turbo made 210 stock at the crank... and ya theyre really fast cars, especially with a few mods and good tires on an AWD, they just go right off the line... hopefully i'll be thrashing on my roommates AWD talon this summer, after the turbo install ;-)

rob

EDIT - just looked it up, 210 crank is stock for turbo 2nd gen DSM's

This thread should be in Allpar! He asked us for mods he can do to make his car better 0-60, not how much power his son's car makes!

To go w/ your Bosal exhaust, I would seriously consider at least a shortie header, and a flex-pipe. Get random tech's cat too, if you can afford it (it costs about the same as your Bosal, but is said to flow *twice* the amount of air!).
Getting new cams is also a good idea, but if you get a set of cams, chances are you wouldn't need the cam gears. (Use the cam gears on a stock cam)
