i called b.a.t today and asked about their header
& they told me its a pacesetter.they said that since they sold them they havent gotten any complains on these headers.(like the crack on welds, fits)they said its actually a good header &
that they seened a 15 hp gain with a borla exhaust and intake.its $229 for high temp.coating
(ceramic) & $180 for regular coating.anybody here with this header?how do you like it?whats your honest opinion compared to focussport & jba.
it seems to me that the thickness and madrel bending is the same.so what is the difference?

the "regular coating" is nothing but flat black paint. upon ignition, it will burn off and fill the engine bay with smoke. high temp is the way to go, otherwise it's a decent header.

I do have one of the pacesetter headers. I think it does just as good as the others, but defiently if your gonna keep it for a long time get the coated one. Only complaint that i had is that the far right hole is drilled a little off

, just a little filing fixes it(about a milimeter).

no complaints here, you MAY save a little money through Modern Performance, though.

I did NOT have any fittament problems, and I second the nothin on repainting it, I will do mine as soon as I get the time....

quote:
they seened a 15 hp gain with a borla exhaust and intake.

15hp on top of the gains of the exhaust and intake or 15hp of all three items put together? There is always a lot of talk...and most companies just put down what a manufacturers expection is for the product, on any make of car instead of a dyno test on a focus. It just seems most companies make a product, market it with a hp or % gain, when in all truthfullness it doesn't seem like they do dyno tests on their product at all, or am I wrong?

if you dont get much gain from a short header why
pay for overpriced ones if its just going to give
it shine.cause focussport say that youll see a
2-3 hp gain with their shorty header.same for jba.
so why pay extra cash.and silver the tech. at b.a.t said it was all three mods that they seened
that gain.ive never delt with pacesetter but i think ill give them a try.it wont to try.

Forgot to add if your gonna get this make sure you have some stuff done to your car first. A shorty all by itself is nearly nonexistent gain. Unless you count the extra valvetrain noise as a gain. From experience I had the header on then pulled it off. then put the bypass pipe on and got some gain up top, but when i slapped the header back on after 4500 the car screams. I have a borla to go with thos, so loud is an understatement for the setup. and i think modern sells it alot cheaper too.

Get the Pacesetter and some header wrap. A half hour wrapping the headers will really help exhaust scavenging and help keep under hood temps. down. It will also help protect them. Paint the wrap with either a silicone header wrap paint ($8-9.00) or a ceramic exhaust paint($5.00). Make sure it's the 1200+ temp. stuff. Many people I know use the wrap on their WERA supersport bikes. Works really well and much cheaper than the pretty coated ones. Team Lexus, Yoshimura and Lockhart use it. Good enough for them, good enough for me. Since I'll be using the wrap, why buy the pretty ones?? Besides I've found a blue therm. that almost matches the malibu blue!

I bought mine here is Puerto Rico and the main reason was the price, ($200) and the article is April's edition of Turbo magazine.

Let me ask you this, if was to get that and wrap it... should I put it on a burn off the coating that comes with it and THEN wrap it... Or would it be ok just to wrap it with what is on it? I would prefer not to make it bubble and such.

IMO it is easier to wrap the headers with them off. I did the stock ones with them on. Not easy.

The wrap lasted about 8 months then it began to crumble into dust and I took it off. I believe that the wrap works.

IMO a high temperature performancecoating will add good looks plus last longer.

I just wrapped mine as soon as I got it. It'll be wrapped so you'll never see the bubbling. Wrapping it will take time, so don't rush it. Maintain the 1/4 inch overlap and if your picky like me you'll use a lot of wrap. Especially for such a small header. I used 1 inch wrap and about 60 feet. Yes, more than one roll. You may want to use the two inch roll. 1 inch is just easier to get between the tubes. A small pry bar and a paint scrapper help getting the wrap between the tubes too. Just don't pry too much. And I used hose clamps to hold the wrap. Go to Thermo-tec to see what wrapped headers look like. The look isn't for everyone. Kind of crude if you ask me. But only a hard core racer would put the time in, and apprieciate the look. I get all misty every time I start it.

S What wrap did you use??? You need to apply a coat of protective sealant or paint. I've had mine on a motorcycle for over two years without a glitch. And a WERA endurance team I know of has had theirs for a couple of seasons of hard racing.
You should do the tubes individually as much as possible. Taking it off is a must as the wrap needs to be damp.
