save up for a whole system like the Magnaflow Borla MBRP. You will be better off with the whole system than just a muffler. plus these three wont run you more than $360 shipped. i got my Borla for $350 shipped from SummitRacing.

a cat-back is a performance exhaust...

but yea, don't pick up the muffler or high flow cat, get the whole cat-back, then flex pipe and header..

cat back. The focus has stock 1 7/8 exhaust piping, while a after market catback system has 2 1/4 piping (magnaflow, bosal, vibrant, etc) or 2.5 (borla).

I went a different route. Stock piping is actually 2", so I replaced the center resonator with a Magnaflow muffler #14214. Both nipples were cut to half length and a short bent section of pipe was connected to the inlet. A 2" bent tailpipe using stock hangers was installed and swedged to fit a 2.5" chromed slash cut tip. With welding, it cost $142. Nice deep tone and more mpg and performance with a K&N drop-in filter works for me. It will do fine until I replace my SE sedan in a few years with an MG ZT-T sportswagon coming from England.

to both. MG ZT-T is saweeeeeeeet!

Isnt the exhaust the same size of the flex pipe? which isnt it 2 1/4??

the stock one is 2". the one that FS sells is 2 1/4".

If you plan on adding a few more power mods, then go ahead and increase the piping. Order the highflow muffler and let a shop install the upgraded piping. I noticed the difference with just the muffler itself and barely noticed a difference when I finally got my piping installed. A magnaflow Catback, all for under $200. Why spend around $400 for a 3-5 hp gain.

go for the full cat-back. i really don't understand how people on here can be so freaking cheap all the time. i don't mean anyone in particular, but i'm a 19 year old college student with car payments, insurance payments, and college payments and i only earn $9/hr. i'm the definition of poor, but i still buy the top quality stuff. sucre it takes a hell of a lot longer, but this way i don't regret it later. everyone i know that has done a custom set-up has eventually gone back and gotten a real cat-back. so now you're talking $200 + $300+ for an exhaust. that's a waste.

you can pick up the MBRP from www.mcnewsautomotive.com for $319 or the Magnaflow from www.newedgeperformance.com for $299. Why waste money on a crappy custom job when you can get those for so cheap? plus they're stainless and 2 1/4".

do what you want to do, but you'll regret going the cheap route and then you'll end up spending more to correct your error.

I'm with Nate 100%. Just buy the whole system. If you get just the muffler than want or need the whole thing later you'll be spending more. For poor people like me and Nate thats not good.

I just removed my resonator and added a high flow muffler and a focus tuning cai and I am pushing around 25 more horses

go with a borla setup not to expensive and you get a decent gain

That's sounds very unreasonable. I don't really think that could be true, or else I would've heard about a lotta people doing it. Have you proven this on the dyno?

speed#7 - what's the most wrongful (that's not a word

) thing that can happen? you waste your money on something that does nothing, but sound loud.

FocusOnPunk - i refer you to my "i am a 19 year old collge student with car payments and insurance and a crappy job" comment.

therpper - what the hell are you smoking? you should start selling it, you'll make some cash.
