Will welding in a resonator on a Borla hinder performance noticibly? I need it to be queter, because I'll be running it with a race header. I can't wake up the neighbors, but don't want to sacrafice TOO much of the gain.

Also, where can I buy one, and should I get any kind in particular... or should I just get it done at an exhaust shop? About how much will it cost? Thanks.

Brad

How quiet will their venturi make the Borla (which starts off as one of the louder exhausts). Relative to the other quiet exhausts, I mean (like the FS and Bosal)?

Guys at CFM (one of FJ sponsers) Ther added a 6in round resonator which is like 20in long. They have a magnaflow cat back though. THey said it got a LOT quieter, plus the resonator is a straight through set up

that resonator they used sounds like what came with my AEM. it REALLY helps in terms of loudness at WOT. without the resonator and a race header it was super loud.. with the resonator it was much better. i don't think there is much loss in performance. on the upside. at least the car didn't sound way faster than it was after the resonator was put on.

I just installed one in my Borla. Ita really quiet now, I got a little tired of the slight drone at hwy speeds that I once covered up with a little radio. Also it feels like I picked up a little low and mid power. We installed a 18" X 4" round resonator to the front straight section. Its a 2-1/4" ID that looks like a glass pack but with no packing inside. It has scallops inside that you direct toward the engine to cut the sound and works really well ($60.00 installed). I thing most muffler shops carry these. I think Blue Streak is the name of one brand. You can spend alot more for a stainless.

I just called Borla and they said it may not even reduce the sound, but it WILL for sure cause restriction in the piping... just want to make sure you KNOW it'll work on the Borla?

I don't want to weld it in and have it not work, or worse, hinder the performance and not work. Do you have it on yours? Anyone?

Mine didn't seem to hinder performance and it got rid of the drone. It is not going to solve your problem though. Mine is still as loud as it used to be when i'm in WOT.

Borla makes a good exhaust. You should just skip out on the header or get a shorty header if you are that worried about waking up the neighbors.
It's not like you are starting up a Harley....

Personally I love the sound of the Borla and other ZETEC's with exhaust systems much better than stock.

Borla does give out a venturi silencer that will quiet it up some. IMO it will restict the air flow a little.

Maby you should just sell the Borla and get a Focus Sport Exhaust. I don't think they are quite as loud.

The ZETEC engine sounds nice with a decent exhaust. A must have modification IMO. (just for the sound)

I have a new stainless resonator on a flanged straight pipe from an MBRP exhaust system I want to sell. Because of the Random cat the exhaust has trumpeting exhaust notes that I have to fix with a super quiet rez. Let me know if you are interested.

I have the borla, FS Raceheader and Flex pipe. I took mine to a shop and had them take out the long pipe and custom make one just like it with a glass pack . So i can always swap it back. It cost me like $50 i think. It still sounds good but it made it alot quieter.......Russell

I installed an extra resonator on my FS exhaust not for the WOT sound (which isn't loud to begin with) but to kill the annoying drone sound on my long commute. The shop guy said "gee, I hope I didn't make your exhaust TOO quiet" but I like it this way. I could never feel much of a gain from just a cat-back anyway, so I don't notice any difference with the extra resonator.
