Is \"Type R\" a trademark of a certain car company?

I see this alot on Ebay and it got me wondering if Type R belonged to a certain car manufacturer. I did a search on google and it came up with several car companies.

I think it sounds stupid. Kinda sounds like a medical condition or some kind of disease.

"I'm sorry but you have cancer, it's Type R, very fatal."

R is a something car company's use to show a certain car is unique then the base models and stuff,Special edition.. Like the Honda Type R in europe has a 200 HP 2.0 Vtec engine and the rest have a smaller engine less power etc.. The type R would have a different suspension, Body Style, seats, gauges, exhaust etc.. Just stuff the makes it different then the other models. The new volvo s60 and v70 r's has a 300 HP tiwn turbo engine, different suspension with 3 different modes for the car.Comfort, sport and advanced which switches the suspension stiffer etc.. Better throttle response and just stuff like that. It's makes the car stand out and tell people this car is different.Represents a special edition model of the car

Originally, it stood for "Race-Prepared" or variants of that.
One of the Oldest "R"s that I know of was made by Ford.
Back in 1966, Ford/Shelby was making the GT-350 Mustang, but they also made a few "Special Editions".
There was the GT-350H for Hertz Rent-a-Car, an EXTREMELY Rare GT-350S w/ a Paxton Supercharger, and the GT-350R that was Stripped and Gutted and Hopped-up(Engine, Brakes, ducting, etc) for use in Road-Racing.

Xero, most cars you see on the road are not type R cars.
even those you see with type R badges that are cars that could be Type R (teg's, civic's) usually arent. there are subtle ways you can tell. first, if it has a go wing, and altezza lights and a type R badge, look at the wheels, generally if they are 5 lug instead of 4, it can be a type R.

i'm not overly familiar with honda, but i know there are a few people on here who can clarify it

Re: Is \"Type R\" a trademark of a certain car company?

Yes, though any Mustang Cobra "R" had BETTER NOT be wearing "TYPE R" Emblems!!!

Re: Is \"Type R\" a trademark of a certain car company?

you guys, a lot of these that you are listing are just "R".

the only company that i can think of that actually calls their variants "Type R" is Honda/Acura.

even the Jag S-Type R. the car is an S-Type. and then they put the "R" on the end. but the "Type" is associated with the "S" in the front.

so, in the automotive world, can anybody think of any other cars besides Honda/Acura that use the moniker "Type R"?

that's what he is referring to. is this "Type R" strictly a Honda/Acura thing? is it trademarked?

"R" had definitely been used a lot. but not "Type R".
