I got a reply from Charissa about the helmet requirements. She did not give specific requirements but she did say that my helmet (Snell M95) is fine. And full face or open face is up to you.

She also said "I have seven "foci" at the moment and we are going to try and get you guys all together when parking."

Somehow we're missing three? Did everyone who said they would register actually register? We haven't heard from Tom in this thread latley?

Still sorting out funding. Need to get a new set of RA-1s as my current set is down to 2/32. ($800USD) Im going to give it my best shot though. Hopefully it works out but I wont commit till probably mid October.

I would probably start in Green as this would be my first time at VIR but suspect I would be working my way up to Blue pretty quickly. It would be great if somebody could give me a point around/ride around to see the line in person and give a few notes like 'dont lift here no matter what'.

Experience: 40ish auto-x events, 15ish open track events, passed regional race school (twice!) but havent applied for novice competition license as I have no plans to race my daily driver in wheel to wheel competition.

I'm still uncertain. The money issue is cleared up... sorta. I can afford it, but it still is a LOT of money for a weekend. Probably worth it to be on track with Rich and all the rest.

Main issues right now:

-Runs over thanksgiving weekend. I'd really like to go home and do some family stuff.

-I would really like to have a cage in my car, but I just dont' know if that's gonna happen in time. It's a lot of work.

-Biggest issue right now is that it's late in November, likely snow season up here. I don't want to leave these Wilwoods on in the snow/salt. If this car is still my daily driver at that point, I'll be taking the brakes off beginning of November. So the track day would be out. If I get another daily driver by that point, I'll leave the brakes on permanently, then there's no problem.

Once this isn't a daily driver, I'll be able to keep it in the garage nice and warm. I'd still take it out for winter navie rallies, but I can hose it off, put it up, take the wheels off and clean off the calipers after every outing.

At this point however, I have kept the stock braking system, and will put it on if I'm still driving it when the snow flies.

Eeesh yeah I forgot there is usually snow around at that time. That means I cant drive down on summer tires (RA-1s are suicide in the snow) and I dont have any winter wheels/tires to clear the brakes now. I was thinking of buying a winter beater for this year but I guess I could drive the car in winter again but that means I need to purchase another set of 16 or 17" wheels and tires. Or I could do what Rob is going to do and switch brakes. But I REALLY dont want to use the stock brakes at VIR.

for what its worth as far as weather down here, we don't usually get a lot of snow. i am 250 miles northeast of vir and can go 3 or 4 years w/o seeing meaningful snow. even last feb. when we got a real storm, it rained at vir. of course that doesn't negate the northern part of the trip. when we do get snow here it is hardly ever before jan. 1989 was the first time in recorded history we had snow before thanksgiving, and that was the day before. of course i have been snowed out at the glen in april too.

If this is really an issue you for you, just drive down in whatever you have and run my car. I'll run in Blue, you run in Green. We'll figure out what its worth if you are interested. I've let others run my car for a weekend for a set of pads.

Yeesh, so if I get Lacy to pay my fee, and I get to use Rich's car...

I really want to bring my car, it'll probably just end up coming down to a last minute thing. I'll end up deciding probably in October.

I could preregister and pay later, then just not show up... but that's not me.

I believe the appropriate term is "bump"!

Maybe for the riffraff in off topic but I believe here in the Road/Rally/Auto-X area we strive for a higher level of the FocalJet experience.

Tee and crumpets in the great hall in 30.

In 30?!?!? In 30!?!?! You philistene (sp?)! One says "half and hour" when one is in the company of ladies and gentlemen of our standing.

Update:

Damn, this wrist is not healing too fast. I might not have an option at all. I took the cast off, but I'm probably going to have to have it put back on. Still hurts. More Xrays today I think. I was doing some research last night, and they say the Scaphoid can take months to heal!

This really blows.

Then drive like they do here in the states. One hand holding your phone, the other your burger, and steer with your knees.

Man that sucks. I hope it get better quick.

and in the left lane w/the other adl's. (anti-destination league). actually that's what you'll love about being on track. most of the folks driving w/total concentration, using their mirrors and pointing where to pass. wouldn't it be great if that was the case on the road. btw, i have a new helmet coming, so will have an extra sa95, size xlarge, full face helmet w/me at vir if anyone needs one.
