I was curious as to what tires everyone is currently using, if you're NOT using the stock Continentals. I'm having a hard time deciding on my next purchase, which I need to be all-season. I was hoping to have something that could handle preferably as well or better than the stocks on dry pavement, but have a some kind of snow traction.

Even though you don't want this..I'm still on the stockers, but I'm planning on going to Kumho Ecsta MXs. I've heard all the rave reviews and I'm looking foward getting stickier rubber on all four corners. I think aloit of people are running those or planning on it. I'd also be interested in find out what people are using.

Go with Toyo's

Thanks for that input. I'm convinced

Im going to replace my Contis with either Kuhmo MX's or Yokohama ES100's. Both seem to rate very high in most tests but obviously aren't all season tires. So if you're looking all season, Your best bet is probably the Sutimoto HTR+. I don't have them but I've heard very good things about them and they are pretty cheap too.

I was kinda debating between the ContiExtremeContacts and the Nitto NT450's... I do need all season tread though. Currently, I'm more concerned with dry pavement traction, with SOME kind of snow capabilities (as opposed to the ContiSports).

With nearly 25k miles on my stock Conti's and two track days these tires had seen better days.
I selected 4 Yokohama ES100s. The ride is noticably different than the Conti's. The wear factor is much higher (280/160) and the traction is also rated AA over the Conti A.
They are also quieter than the Conti's.
The only drawback is they are directional and therefore can't be rotated as freely as the bi-directional Continental's. I am planning a track day in November and will know much more after that. It will be at a track where I have run with the Coniti's so I should be able to make a good comparison.
P.S. The price was $122 each plus all the other taxes etc.

JaySD - Kuhmo Ecsta MX

Belacyrf - Kuhmo Ecsta MX

For the price, the grip is excellent. I think if you'd like a little more life from your tire but still want some good grip, go with SurfSVT's suggestion of the Toyo ES100's. Probably not as grippy as the Kuhmo's but IMO the best bang for the buck in their grip category.

Good Luck!

I've had the Toyo Proxes FZ4's on my car for a couple thousand miles now. And I'm glad I got them when I did. Last month the rainy season hit early out here in the desert and they seemed to do very good. They're quiet on dry pavement, offer good grip, have a W-speed rating, and are supposedly some of the lightest tires for their size (which ='s less un-sprung weight). Comparing a summer tire to a high-performance all-season isn't really fair, and the Conti's were better as far as grip when they were new. The Toyo's don't grip quite as strong, but do seem to be pretty progressive when they start to go.

I've ran Toyo's in the past and have had good luck with them. The Tire Rack doesn't carry them, so the "reviews" a lot of people look at aren't there. The Yokohama's are another good choice and I'd go with them over the Nitto's. I actually plan to get the AVS ES100's on one of my other cars pretty soon.

BTW, the Toyo's ran about $109 for the stock size 215/45-17's.

I have ContiExtremeContacts and they're excellent overall tires. Great treadwear rating, all-weather rated, and they look good. They don't grip as well as the stock conti's, but for the price (like $90 a tire), they are a great value.

I am currently running Potenza RE750s. Tread wear 360. W rated. Kind of expensive, but I must say that in the 12K miles I have had them the tread is holding up great! The way the tires handle is awesome. If you are looking to save some bucks have a look at the Sumitumos HTZR II, something like that, I have two of them mounted on 16 inch focus wheels that I use when I go to the track, so I dont tear up my Potenzas. They are nice, I am enjoying them at the track, only been twice with them. But, have given me pretty good traction. Good luck.

I appreciate the suggestions, but most of them have been summer tread, which isn't what I was hoping for... kinda looking for suggestions on ALL-SEASON stuff... My reason being that I'm going to school full-time again next semester, and I had to can my plans for getting winter tires on my stocks, with 18's following in the spring... that is my predicament.

If you need an all season tire for you SVTF then go with the Continental ContiExtremeContact, they go for $89 each from Tirerack. They are rated the best on there and the price is unbelievable.

If you don't need an all season tire then I would recommend Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position. That is what I have on my SVT, but I never drive in the snow here in CA.

I went with a 215/40YR17 instead of the stock 215/45YR17 size. This shortened the gearing a little (3.3%) and helped to improve the acceleration too.

Nalar,
Don't waste your money on all season tires! All season = all suck! They don't do anything very well. You must have 2 sets, summer and winter. Especially in MI. Since it's fall, buy a set of winter tires(I like Blizzaks)now. Then, next spring, buy your summer(performance) tires. Then you're all set! Yeah, it'll cost ya a little more, but it's MUCH safer, and you'll get a lot more enjoyment driving your car, summer AND winter.

I know, not what you're asking, but I just hate seeing people put all season tires on a performance car. That just gives you all season poor performance!

^^^ I agree!

I have a set of ContiExtremeContacts on 16" stockers for my winter tires and there is no way I would want them on my car during the summer. It's like an athlete wearing flip-flops. I don't run snow tires because the roads in SE Michigan get cleared pretty quickly in the winter.

In the spring I'll be replacing the stock 17 inchers with some Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s or the Kumho MXers.

I agree. I bought my SVT last November and did not have the money for winter tires. It is my first experience with summer tires and I learned my lesson. 16" ZX3 stockers and some Dunlop Winter Sport M3's are on the way. SInce I live in an area where it does not snow 4-5 times a week, I wanted snow tires that also concentrated on dry handling. The Blizzak LM-22's look nice, but I cannot justify the extra $120.

As for my stock Conti's, they are looking a little hurting at 20k miles, so I am thinking of getting the Mx's or maybe the BFG KDW2's

I have the Sumitomo HTR+ They are the exact same size as the stock contis, and about $100 a tire. I have run them for about a year now, and have been pretty pleased. Don't handle as well as the contis, but pretty close, and they are pretty good in the snow. I have been through a couple of snow storms in them after going through one in the contis and it is night and day. I would definately limit my snow driving in them, but at least they will get you down the road unlike the contis.

The only thing I am worried about is tread wear. Time will tell to see how long they last.

AVS ES 100

This a review I wrote after putting on the yokos. I think they are far superior to the stock conits. Ride noise is down, handling is better and they seem to be wearing very well. I realize they are not all season, but thought you would like to see it anyway. Go for the two sets of wheels/tires if you can. Used stock wheels can be had fairly cheap and you won't have to compromise either way.

Just got Sumitomo HTRII yesterday, so I'll need some time to see how they feel. Found out after the fact that they are directional...easier rotation but probably not even wear. Very cool tread design, it looks like it will do very well on water.

Price at Tirerack was $88, got good reviews for wet surface, don't know about snow ( and in LA I'll never know
