You can try and use a new razor blade and some auto glass cleaner to scrape the remaining residue off.You can also try using Goof Off or Goof Gone one of those remove sticker gum residue (but I am not sure which one) with the new razor blade but I am not sure it those products work on glass also.Someone may have different things for you to try also.Good luck and keep us posted.

You can also try a high grade glass polish(not to be confused with glass cleaner!) like Zaino or Permatex. If none of the above works, it's likely permenant.

Spray it down with glass cleaner, then scrape it with a new razor blade, the dry it off, then spray it again and use steel wool to rub where the sticker was, we do it this way at work and it seems to work awesomely.

If he has to go that route with the steel wool you should mention which type he needs to use so it won't damage the glass.

I used Rain-X Anti-Fog and it took care of it.

vinegar and water it worked good to take off the glue of 7 layers of window tint off my old car.

I have the same problem as you blazin caucasian, but i don't really mind because my decal was an Autobot sticker. Which rules.
