Re: Grr - Focus is pissing me off (crappy take-off at low RPMS W

I cleaned mine and wires werent broke. dont know of anyway to actually test it

Re: Grr - Focus is pissing me off (crappy take-off at low RPMS W

I too am experiencing the same boggin effect.

I replace the fuel filter every 10k miles (currently have 31k miles on the car), I replaced all spark plugs with Motorcraft double platinums at 25k along with a set of wires.

I have zero engine/drivetrain modifications.

I have been experiencing a very light knocking/pinging during light acceleration, or so I think - it could be the injectors I'm hearing, but at hard acceleration I have had that thing knock & ping like no tomorrow.

Besides hating the problems and I hate the dealer, any suggestions?

I use Mobil regular unleaded.

Have you tried any fuel system cleaner? Might help a little bit.

How is your air filter, i would think new, cause you change the fuel filter every 10K,

just thought i'd ask

*MY* Air filter is an ITG air filter that never needs replacing. I last cleaned it (recommended every 30K or so) at my last oil change, about 2000 miles ago. I usually clean my air filters at every oil change (5,000 miles with mobil-1)

I'm going to try the fuel filter tomorrow. I hope it works.

Re: Grr - Focus is pissing me off (crappy take-off at low RPMS W

*Techron 2x-year
*Drygas-2 to 4x-year, depending on how I feel
*Mobil-1 0W-20 full synthetic, w/filter (and I'm going to change it once a year because I don't do enough driving)
*Air filter @ 20k miles, I just checked it a few months ago, but I'm going to pick a new one up today and change it
*Wires are from CarQuest and changed @ 25k miles
*Plugs, Motorcraft DP @ 25k
Other non-engine:
*P/S fluid change @ 28k
*Manual gear oil every 10k and it's Motorcraft

Regarding wires, I could go with the Ford Racing 9mm wires, especially since I have read that the resistance is low when compared to stock.

The valve cover weeps (because the quality sucks) onto/along the coil pack. Perhaps oil is infiltrating the contact between the coil pack and the module? if so, then I could use electric motor cleaner and new di-electric grease.

I love this car and hate the quality. Also, unless I have a gun pointed at my head, I refuse to go to the dealer because they do lousy work and every time I have had the car in they have never fixed the car correctly, meaning there are still problems and they have damaged the car.

Any other suggestions?

*edit* I almost forgot. The dealer has twice claimed to have reprogrammed the computer because of a pulsing sensation when accelerating, especially uphill and not at WOT.

0W-20????

Re: Grr - Focus is pissing me off (crappy take-off at low RPMS W

The problems do not coincide with the installation of a conical air filter hanging off the MAF do they? If so it could be MAF turbulence - I had to go back to a SVT airbox to cure mine - they were terrible - especially when at low airflow and the cooling fan would turn on, or when driving into a gusty headwind.

If / when you do scan it, I would take a look at the short and long term fuel trims in the trouble spots while you are at it - if a fuel mixture problem is indicated, you could stop working with the ignition and start focusing on the MAF, injectors, fuel pump, filter, etc.

Re: Grr - Focus is pissing me off (crappy take-off at low RPMS W

Just unplug your MAF and drive it for a bit and see how it does. If you unplug the MAF it'll just use the VE table to supply fuel. I wouldnt suggest running it to redline like that with a chip, but at low RPM's it should be a fine test.

Re: Grr - Focus is pissing me off (crappy take-off at low RPMS W

mine runs the same with or without the MAFS plugged in. Actually it bogs down a bit longer (higher up the RPM's)

Re: Grr - Focus is pissing me off (crappy take-off at low RPMS W

...maybe it's time to pull the EGR valve and clean it. The Mustang used to carbon up very easily so maybe...

nope, it still does it!

There's some plug wires waiting for me at my parents place, but my focus also has other issues aside from this one.

Re: Grr - Focus is pissing me off (crappy take-off at low RPMS W

I replaced my in line fuel filter and put in some fuel cleaner two fill ups ago, cleaned my EGR valve (wasn't that bad at all), and cleaned my MAF with some brake cleaner ever so lightly. It improved on the hesitation but didn't get rid of it.

The only time my car has not had hesitation of any kind was when it was brand new and 25-30k after I would get into the tank to clean out the fuel pump itself. I am convinced that is what is required with the old pump and canister of which I still use to keep it hesitation free.

Does anyone know what the improvement is Ford made on the pump they put the recall on? If it is a true improvement and keeps me from having to get into the tank every 30k miles I will go get it done, but if they only do what I am already doing then I will do it myself.

Wanna send me a how-to article for FocusHacks? I'll give ya credit, and I might even take some pics to go along with it when/if I get around to it.

When I clean the pump again I will take pictures of everything and write a good how-to for ya. I probably won't get to this for a while though.

If Ford has a fix with a new design then I will gladly get the recall done instead. If that is the case I will pull out the replacement canister and take pics of that. Maybe the dealer will let me take pics of them doing the replacement.

had this problem for a while now.. haven't found anything yet.. i did have the pump change and thought it would fix it.. nope.. fuel filter probably soon but got some other stuff to fix first to at least be able to roll :p (thanks mtx45..)

I'm operating under the assumption that it's my fuel pump on the last of it's last limbs.
