It's amazing how little WRC interest there is here.
I respectfully disagree; well, you're prolly right, however I LOVE watching WRC.
I think it's the best driving out there w/ the skill involved. But it's different than goin' wheel to wheel w/ 20 to 42 other cars.

I know! And you know what made my night?? One of my students walked out and saw my car and said "Hey, are you gonna make that a Rally car, cuz they're real good at that!

There is hope for our youth!!!!

Maybe if the coverage wasn't so bad, it's virtually unwatchable.

How so?

There are far too many 'talking' sections, interviews etc... If you watch closely, you'll notice just how little video footage of the racing there is. Well below 50% of the show's time is footage of actual racing. It seems they're afraid people won't enjoy the 'in car' shots, so they resort to sparse amounts of in car, and a little more of the helicopter shots, which I fully understand are hard to come by. Personally I'd love to see tons of in car shots, I'm just not getting it.

Also, I understand that commercials are a part of all television, I'm cool with that. However, not only are the commercial breaks during WRC coverage very closely spaced, they're the same commercials every break, every week. It's insanely annoying.

I still watch it though, nearly every week.

I'd LOVE to see some start to finish footage in the shorter stages. I understand that its not feasable for the 15-20KM stages... but there are some stages that are only 8-10KM that would be GREAT to do a run of the whole stage... and do it well... and edit great... mix shots of in car, static shots along the stage, helicopter aerial shots, and it'll be great.

Another criticism is that after day one... they IGNORE anyone out of the top 5. Well.. you can almost sort of tell who finishes in what position by how much they cover the drivers. Case in point, when Marko bailed a couple weeks ago in Greece, they totally dropped coverage of him. But with the SuperRally trial, he was racing some more. Why not show the drivers still trying ya know?

Also... when the privateers break into the points, there is NO coverage. Turkey... Anthony Warmbold got points in his 2003 Focus. NO COVERAGE. Janne Tuohino is doing VERY well but again... NO COVERAGE. (unless he's driving specialty for Ford) I mean I understand why... you're cramming 3 days of events into 90 minutes.... but I'd like to see better and more extensive coverage in order to see these other drivers work their asses off.

What IS good... is all the virtual spectator stuff that they use to illustrate how one car betters another in a particular section... as a fan I can really appreciate that. May be a small detail, but it really shows how drivers get their edge in certain stages at times.

I also appreciate that the Inmarsat Star of the Rally goes to the crews at times... they really do step up on a number of occasions, and are deserving of the recognition more often than they get it.

i love that part. also the in car footage.

as for markko's car: holy crap. i'm glad he's okay.

This also probably has to do with paid sponsorships. Subaru (with their commercials at every break) are a perfect example. Showing privateers on TV brings them virtually nothing, when they can scratch the backs of their big names and focus coverage on the companies writing the checks.

Similar thing happens in F1, except in F1 its a requirement that all participating teams get coverage. This has a lot to do with the reasoning behind the single car qualifying. While the little guy Minardi is running his lap, his sponsor garb is all over the screen for a couple minutes.

It's a darn shame, that WRC Focus is one of the coolest machines known to man, I hate to see it mangled.
