This may seem like a dumb question, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere I look (or I'm blind? I dunno)

How wide is the stock throttle body on an 00-02 ZX3?
I heard they were changed in 2003.

Anyone, hello?
I'm guessing about 50mm, but its hard to tell.

I just purchased a BBK 65mm bore and I'm wondering how much better the car is going to be breathing.

You wont notice any hp increase, but the car is alot more fun to drive because of the awesome throttle response.

I wasn't too worried about an hp increase.

Not for this mod, anyway!

I just began to wonder, though, what about fuel consumption? Will I get better gas miliage from a throttle body?

You should gain like a pony or two, but like he said, you probably won't notice it...you will notice a much better throttle response and some high end power increase...you might loose some bottom end...Overall, you'll love it trust me!!!

i dont think a larger t/b will improve your fuel economy.

in theory, anything that frees up intake/exhaust should to some degree, but i dont think this will.

i think it'll just be opening up wider, so you will be revving a bit harder, and in the long run you will be using a bit more gas.

the only thing i've noticed that affects mileage is the coil/wires, but its very very slight, so its not quite worth the money for the MSD coil or the Screamin Demon unless you can get a great deal on it or something.

I think the stocker is 50 or 55mm.

About the only thing different in performance with the larger bore TB will be your throttle response, it will be much more sensitive. As far as mileage and HP goes you really won't see anything, after all your engine is nothing more than an air pump and is going to flow what ever it flows. But with that said, you will prolly lose a bit in gas mileage, not because your getting any real performance gains or making more HP, but because the TB makes it so much more fun to drive you'll have your foot in it more often.

Uh oh.

well i kept mine for about 5 minutes before putting the stock one back ...i really didn't like it, i was unable to keep the wheels from spinning when launching and i seemed to have no power over 4000rpm but it might of been because i crapped up the tps ..but anyways ...hope you have a better experience ...and be careful with the tps those things are extra fragile, make sure you mount them in the right holes or else you just broke it

The stock TB is 58mm at it widest area, the ridge that folks grind away when porting narrows to about 50mm or so (measurement made with tape not calipers so there is some margin of error).

TPS is only about $30 at your local dealer or www.fordparts.com they break VERY easy. I've gone through three in three years (one from installing it wrong on an early tb, two from water under my CF hood shorting them out.)

Now I keep a spare at all times.

Is there a name brand TB better than the rest? 65mm is probably the best to get right?
probably the BBK. its ludicrously expensive, but it's cast 356 aluminum and it's only for 2000-2002 focuses.

interestingly enough, the MAC is also cast 356, but less than half the price of the $350 BBK one. Dependability, however, is a bit of a tossup as they were removed from the market for a while, i believe. i dont know what the issue was there. i might look into this one if i cant find a BBK secondhand.

The Mac unit is still avaialble from Batinc.net for $165. Im gonna pick one up for that price. Or you may also consider the Jackson racing one...They have them on clearance for VERY cheap. Only problem is that dont open fully @ WOT.

Then doesn't that sorta defeat the purpose of Wide Open Throttle?

Well.... DUH! Of course it does, I was merely offering it as a suggestion as an inexpensive option to the $300 BBK.

Well they say that with a 65MM TB at 50% throttle you're already consuming as much air as the Zetec can take so does it really matter if the MAC doesn't open all the way? Unless it messed with the TPS or something.
