Re: Welcome Procharger to the list of Sc\'s Update

I am pretty sure they are working on the tuning part of the SVT kit before they realease it. The kit is the exact same as the one on my car, it just has a different pipe that runs from the intercooler to the TB because of the SVT placement. I am going by the shop tomm and I'll snoop around and see what I can come up with. I am going to try and get a hold of the people at procharger and let them know that people are interested and want dates and such...Peace

Re: Welcome Procharger to the list of Sc\'s Update

Well made it home safe tonight after another weekend of driving the piss out of the car. This weekend I ran around on 91 octane only to see if there was any difference between the 91 and the 92/100 mix I ran last weekend. It ran a little smoother on the mix, as it probably should. The final mix ratio turned the gas into about 95/96 octane so it wasn't like running straight 100 or 104.

Some general driving impressions are that the car does not like partial throttle. With the bypass valve the air and "boost" keep recuirculating and if you are partial throttle and then lay into it sometimes it doesn't seem to like that. The car is HARD to drive at the track. I could not get a consistent launch and traction was tough going even on 14" Nitto 555r's. 1st gear was worthless and 2nd not much better. 3rd was nice and pulled really well, and I shifted out early only because I new that it wasn't going to be that great a set of runs. The pull on the highway is incredible, if you need to pass there is no reason to shift into third anymore, just mash fourth and the speed increases to what almost feels exponential rate. A couple times I didn't realize how fast I was going until I looked down because the power band is so smooth. Before the SC I knew when I was going to fast because the car was higher in the RPM's. I haven't got a decent gauge on gas mileage yet because I have had my foot in it a little bit, and for basically 7 days I was stil running on the 95 octane mix. I think I will be able to get around 275 miles to the tank on a fairly conservative driving pattern...Anyways just wanted to let you guys know where I am at after 16 days with the car. Keep throwing questions this way because I am going to get a hold of the guy who tuned the car from procharger and I need stuff to talk to him about. Peace

Your rpms were not higher at any given speed before the supercharger there, buddy. It's all in your head ;-) (unless of course you were running the 14" nitto 555rs on the highway, even then it would not be that much of a diff)

I think that he means that the RPM's are lower because he didn't have to downshift to third...

Re: Welcome Procharger to the list of Sc\'s Update

I just meant that I was going X speed at a lot lower RPMS than I used to...

No you're not.

You RPM's and speed are EXACTLY as they were before.... UNLESS you've change your gearing.

If you are trying to say 60 were going x mph in 4th gear at 4000rpm, and now your doing the same speed at 2000rpm your crazy

now if your saying the time it takes to go from 50-90 in 3rd took longer than it does from 50-90 now that you have your s.c i gotcha

sorry if my post dont make since, i just got thru with the equivalent of drink a b16's displacment of OB (korean budwieser)

Re: Welcome Procharger to the list of Sc\'s Update

Hey Blox- Do you happen to have an EGT gauge installed? If so, what's your EGT's looking like? Also, any chance of getting some data logs posted up? It would be interesting to see how agreesive (or not) they are being with timing, what your IATs look like, and all that other good stuff... You know... nerd stuff!

Re: Welcome Procharger to the list of Sc\'s Update

Unfortunately I don't have an EGT gauge. I never got to talk to the tuner to see if he could eliminate the DPFE sensor so I could just run an EGT sensor in that bung. I don't have a data logger, but I do remember you posting up that you had a couple. If you wanted to send one out here I could try and get some logs or whatever you call them. As for the speed thing I guess it just feels like going from x speed to x speed takes less time and less effort than it used to, its just a feeling with no actual physical data to back it up....

I would also like to see some hard data on this kit as well. There hasn't even been any pics put up?

Well I would have to remove the font bumper to take pics and haven't had the time to mess with it yet...

Re: Welcome Procharger to the list of Sc\'s Update

Only really big negative i've seen about the pro-charger stuff is the really loud annoying noise it has at idle similar to what's in blox's video.

Still no word from pro-charger about a kit.

Its not as loud as the video indicates, but you can hear it. Its music to my ears personally...BTW as soon as imagestation is back up I will have some pics...

Re: Welcome Procharger to the list of Sc\'s Update

I don't see how everybody is trying to make procharger in a new big thing. I am happy to see there is possible another option for the focus, but I don't think the prochager will sell well unless the prices are low. The vortech kits are not selling that well at all. Someone can call vortech up and see that they are not selling that many kits.

The main reason they are not selling that many kits since not that many people have the money to buy the kit. If people had the money, than c-f-m would not have to drop the prices crazy on their vortech kits. One examples is they have the svtf intercooled kit for sale for $3,860, which retails for $4,722.95. Summit and jegs don't even sell it for that low. They have the other vortech focus kits discount a good amount also. The reason c-f-m is doing that since the kit is in stock and nobody has the money to buy it. Vortech will upgrade this kit with 55lb injectors and the diablo preditor for free.

The vortech svtf focus and zx3 focus kits with tuning have been shown to make more hp than the procharger kit. 290fwhp with 10psi of boost on slickshoes svtf car is great results from a vortech. C-F-M car should be making over 288fwhp+ now since they added a smaller superchager pulley.

The only think I will have to say I wish you good luck. It does not seem like it is going to sell well unless the price is a good amount lower than $3,800,which would include a intercooler and tuning. I would rather buy a kit that has been on the market with good hp results than to wait on something that is not out yet. C-F-M has great prices on vortech kits, and they are a procharger dealers. That means C-F-M can offer a good price with that ever a person choices.

10 psi pulley is the key statement there. You cannot compare an 8psi kit and a 10psi kit. The numbers from wolff back in the day put down 280hp on an 8lb pulley with the Procharger so I don't think the HP numbers between the two will be that different.

I agree that it is going to have to be affordable if they want to sell the kit, but I don't work in thier marketing office either. My goal is to put out at least 300 hp if not 350 with a fully built system. I talked to the shop and they didn't even flinch at those numbers. I don't know about the vortech, but the Procharger C1 blower unit is capable of handling 625 or 675 hp I can't remember for sure. So I think 300 hp is easily possible on a built motor and 10psi kit. I only have 90more hp's to make

Yea...the C-1 is capable of 625 hp and I think it's the C-2 that is capable of making 675 hp. When the kit comes out for the SVT and when I can afford it, I want to give my car around 400-450 hp to the ground and call it quits with the Focus.

I stand corrected. I just looked at the Procharger site and the C-1 is capable of 675 hp and the C-2 is capable of 725 hp.

Re: Welcome Procharger to the list of Sc\'s Update

Pro-charger looks to be another choice by a reputable company to make big power is the reason why there is so much interest. Possibly at affordable prices which is a good thing IMHO.

As far as the "nobody is buying them" scenario, well this is common when cars first start be modified this deep. It takes a while for companies to build a reputation to show that their products are reliable, safe, and are worth dumping so much $ into to get the job done. Even the now venerable 5.0L fox Mustang took a while before people really started jumping onto the bandwagon to mod them with superchargers, turbo's, and so forth.

As far as:

The vortech svtf focus and zx3 focus kits with tuning have been shown to make more hp than the procharger kit. 290fwhp with 10psi of boost on slickshoes svtf car is great results from a vortech. C-F-M car should be making over 288fwhp+ now since they added a smaller supercharger pulley.
For one there hasn't been any SVTF pro-charger results yet so we don't really know how it will perform. I don't think it is quite fair to compare the two kits yet, at least not until you can get the same type cars with the same amount of boost. Second, I don't think pro-charger will sell their kit tuned as precisely as Slickshoes custom tune is, it'll probably be on the safe side to cover variances from car to car. That's normal however; the best tune is and always will be the one you get after spending time on the dyno with a good tuner. Long distance "one size fits all" tunes are ok and probably pretty close, but sometimes there is considerable power to be gained with dyno time.

I'm currently debating myself on Pro-charger/Vortech. I want to do something soon and I don't know how long it's going to be before procharger has their SVTF kit ready for sale. I want to see prochargers results before deciding however. The reason I am leaning towards Pro-charger is their air-to-air intercooling. I think it is much better suited for street driving. Don't get me wrong air/water cooling obviously works, but IMHO not as well for day to day use. I mean just think about it, with air/water cooling you have two places where you’re relying on heat transfer to take place to remove intake heat. The first place is at the intake where the air/water meets, and then again where the water is pumped through a radiator to cool it down. That is two places with less then %100 heat transfer, which equals less overall efficiency, I don't for sure but from what I have read the combined effectiveness is probably %40-50 at removing heat (unless your sticking ice in the reservoir or something, but that is not something you can really do 24/7). Now if you look at air/air intercooling you have 1 place where heat transfer needs to be made and that is at the actual intercooler. Typical air/air intercoolers are %60-80 efficient, which will make more power and allow for more boost (due to lower intake temps). Yes there is more boost drop across an air/air intercooler, but it's not that much generally speaking and if there were no boost drop there would be no intercooling going on to begin with. Unless you’re looking for that last 1-2lbs of boost it should not really matter. With prochargers unit capable of 600hp+ airflow I doubt there is anyone going to be capping out the unit desiring an extra ~2lbs of boost they are losing to the intercooler.

I am also leaning towards Pro-charger because I have helped install a Vortech kit before on a Mustang. Granted it was some years ago and I am sure things have changed a lot, but we had some fits with the oil lines and brass fittings they were using. We couldn't get them to seal totally and still line up properly without being in a bind (we tried like 3 of them, with teflon tape and without etc..). They didn't leak that bad but it was enough to make a small mess between oil changes which was just annoying. I also was not fond of some other aspects like them offering a FMU rather then tuned chip and so forth. Granted this car is still on the road 60k+ hard miles later and it added over 120whp to the stock 5.0L Mustang (even with the crappy FMU), which I guess says something for Vortech's reliability, safety, and ability to make power right out of the box.

350 whp on a ZX3 and a supercharger? Well, I guess that only about 3.5 times the stock output, should be easy! If you do it, congrats on being the first,.........

If only people's wallets were as big as their dreams.

Just an FYI, I still have the email stating I am #6 to recieve the procharger kit. IF ATI is honoring them, I will sell it to someone......

Re: Welcome Procharger to the list of Sc\'s Update

350 hp is a lofty goal, but well within reach. My wallet will be as big as my dream if I so choose. Do you understand that you can spin the impeller speed of the C1 supercharger to 80,000 rpm and 24 psi of boost? With this much boost on tap and fully built internals as well as a built head and upgraded fuel unit 300 hp would be simple and 350 should not be that difficult. Now granted that hp number may have to come at 7500 rpms, nobody ever claimed that centerfugal supercharges made low end grunt. I hope you are the 6th person to get one because then maybe you will realize first hand the things that I have been talking about. Last winter I was fortunate enough to witness a tuning day that featured a 1000whp camaro that was using a procharger, that car and all of the success that the Pro 5.0 cars have had with thier ATI blowers gives me great confidence that if I choose to set a goal of 300 or 350 hp ATI/procharger and MC racing will do everything possible within thier power to get there.

You'll need 110 octane fuel to keep it safe.
