I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet...

Would Saab void your warranty (which is better than subaru's) because of autocrossing/santioned racing? We know about the Sub & Mitsu devilish rumors. But that might be one reason that I'd consider. Plus buying a Saab over a Subaru could be looked at as a "sock-it-to-em / In-your-face" to Sub for being poo poo heads about warranties.

ohhhhh good point good point...

WRX wagon: $24,295
Saab 9-2X Aero: $26,950

Me, I'm keeping the 2655 bucks and maybe heading over to Vishnu.
While I personally may agree with you... different strokes for different folks. Some people put a lot of emphasis on interior quality, go hang out on a VW board for a while.

And as far as Autoweek goes... they're good at getting current automotive news out quickly but I don't put a lot of credence in their driving impressions. They seem to be a group of fuddy duddies IMHO.

I have test driven the saab 92x and also the 9-5 aero.. for 2k i would take the bite and get the saab reason is if you drive a saab everything is driver oriented.. the wrx is too but not as elegant as the saab you'll get the wood grain or carbon fiber trim.. the really cool air vents... there's a significant difference between the 2 but the engine and other things are similar.. test drive each and then make your decision don't rely on us b/c some of us are partial to what we like...and also you won't get the insurance hike you would get with a subie too or so i hope...

That engine management thing means it has OBDII like all cars these days, and also it can adapt if you put in 87 octane fuel. It basically has a knock sensor that works.

As for the comparison:

I looked at the Saab before buying my WRX. Couple things made me choose the WRX over the Saab:

1)I like "character" in my cars. Personality. The WRX is a rally special. Subbie is one of the few companies who actually offer their "rally car" for sale. That gives it a little something that the Saab is missing, even though it's the same car underneath

2)I don't like the seat fabric on the 9-2. It's like a tweed. The WRX fabric is more sporty looking, and the 05 fabric is even better! It looks like carbon fiber. Pretty cool.

3)The 9-2X actually rides harsher than the WRX. The low profile tires, and I think stiffer dampers, made it quite choppy over broken pavement. I wanted the off-road suspension of the WRX for Detroit. Same with the high-profile tires.

4)Only available in wagon. I wanted a sedan or hatchback, not a wagonlet. My wife drives a wagon, don't really need two.

5)At the time I looked, the Saab was just out. Nobody was dealing on it, no financing, couldn't even use my GM card points or get supplier pricing. I got a couple grand off the sticker on my Sub, and 2.8 financing.

6)The dealers are getting mostly automatics in. The automatic is a DOG behind that motor. The car was gutless off the line, I think my wife's automatic Focus would holeshot it. I think this is a HUGE mistake in this car, thinking 90% of customers are going to want an auto. If they thought that, they should have used the 2.5, because it has much better low end torque.

7)I do like the sleek, more sophisticated styling of the Saab, but I also like the new WRX. Didn't like the bugeye so much, but the 04+ is nice. Also on the inside, I really couldnt' tell a difference, so I don't know why somebody would say the 9-2 was nicer.

Well yall I went to the subaru place and test drove both the 2.5rs and the WRX.......

I drove the 2.5rs first and having driven several wrx's before it was rather disappointing. The clutch feel was like I was stepping on a wet sponge. It was actually hard to drive..lol....unlike the wrx's tight clucth. The 2.5rs has a bit of low end power making it acellerate nicely from a stop but I feel it doesnt have enough power for the car that it is.

I drove a 2005 white wrx too. The clutch is so nice...the shifts are short and the power after 3k RPM is sooooooo sweet. Ive drive a 2002 and a 2003 before but the 2005 with the new darker gunmetalish wheels and the nicer hood scoop sold me......

Now the hard part......getting the payment where i want it to be.......
