SVT Focus #1 ( aggressively driven on track days ) driver's side rear trailing arm bends inwards [fails] Result: turned the rear wheel to the right while doing 65 mph in heavy traffic. I didn't hit anyone but I went flying off the freeway and down a 20 ft embankment. Not a bruise or a scratch. Damn safe car! Held up well. I look for the good in everything.

I did however miss that evening's FJ SoCal G2G at Sonic Burger.

Dead at 25k miles.

Got another one...no issues in 8000 miles. Broke it in well. 'Waited 450 miles 'till I slapped on the SuperCharger!

2000 ZX3 bought in August 2000

Rear seat, battery cable, and pinch bolt recalls
Turned rotors at about 5000 due to nasty shimmy
Replaced pads and rotors at 10000 due to shimmy returning
Flashed ECU due to stumble
Replaced factory 15 wheels and tires with S2 16" wheels and Kumho 712s at around 15,000 miles
Right rear shock blew out, replaced under warranty
Cracked windshield, replaced
Steering rack leaking. Replaced under warranty
New steering rack leaking a week later due to damaged steering pump ends from mechanics. Also, power steering fluid overfilled to very top of reservoir. Repaired under warranty.
DPFE went out at 35,995 miles (of 36,000 mile warranty) thankfully replaced under warranty.
Rear brake squeak initially fixed by myself, but has returned as of late.
Put the old 15" wheels and tires back on due to the Kumhos being worn out at 42,000. Will be replaced by some Fuzion tires on the 16s as soon as budget allows.

Currently experiencing slight stumble, sticking idle air control valve, and squeaking rear brakes. Rotors and pads need replacing soon as well.

But you know what? The damn thing is paid off at 43,000 miles and it's still an eye catching car to look at. Especially after seeing the new front ends on the 2005 ZX3/ZX5s that look completely out of place. So I guess I'll keep it

2001 ZX3 86,000 miles LOTS of track miles.

I think I did the fuel pump mod at around 30K, that's about it, oh, and one o2 sensor at about 75K.

7000 miles (approx) - Tire flew across 8 lanes of freeway to smack me in the windshield and come within inches of killing me.

13000 miles - some dumb bitch turned left in front of me scuffing up my bumper, then tells her insurance company that I was driving on the wrong side of the road. Litigation is pending.

15000 miles - bolt from throttle body that fell down intake manifold gets caught in the valvetrain. Engine replaced under warranty.

49000 miles - Fuel Pump goes kablooey. $275 part and $175 labor later she's back running.

Thats about it really. I've put a ton of track miles and run her hard and put her away wet a few too many times... so I've been very fortunate.

Umm

September, 2001: Purchased new from Fremont Ford.
Sometime in 02: Mom locks up brakes on offramp due to inattentive driving. CHT sensor dies somehow as a result of, or at the same time as this. Replaced under warranty.
July, 03: Mom whacks off drivers side mirror backing out of garage. Replaced at her expense.
April-June 04: Transmission has issues engaging second and fourth gear at high rpm. Issue brought to Ford's attention, no action taken.
September, 04: Warranty expires, transmission is slowly dying. Car has a phantom exhaust leak (my doing, not Ford's, and sometimes has issues starting up while still warm. Driver's side window squeaks, and radio sometimes shuts off during extended operation.

Pretty painless compared to most, it seems.

2001 ZX3 base model bought used with 22K with no history of repair according to Ford records.

Fuel pump problem at 32k before official recall but mechanics couldn't find anything. The problem usually on surfaced with less than 1/4 tank on hard right hand turn like clover leaf off ramps. Typical problem. Waited them out and and eventually done free of charge.

Wheel bearing recall done at 32k when in for the fuel pump check first. No other recalls on this car.

Front brake pads at 49k after last Mexican mountain road trip.

DPFE done at 58k free of charge.

O2 sensor at 66k by me. About $45.

Valve cover gasket needs replacing right now and the battery post is getting corroded often. I probably need a new battery right now.

I'm a mechanic/auto tech instructor so repairs will not be a problem when it get older.

I really enjoy my car. Speeds of 85-100 mph are common and it never complains. Sometimes I purposely seek out winding roads just to have fun.

Louie.

which one?

If you mean which winding road there are several. South Texas is my stomping area. In my 150 mile drive home there is a "shortcut" between major roads that's 18 miles long and I have never seen police in 9 years. I only drive it during the day because wild animals are a problem at nights. I hit the speed limiter often on this road.

This past summer I drove "el espinaso del diablo" (the devil's backbone). It's 210 miles of almost continous switchbacks through the Sierra Madre mountain range in Mexico from Durango to Mazatlan. It's a great road. My previous best was 8 1/2 hours but I had heard from others claiming they drove it in 6-6 1/2 hours. I drove it in 4 1/2 hours effortlessly. I even mounted a digital camcorder and took video of the road.

2003 ZX3

18000 - Replaced headlights, because HID > halogen
Image

~24000 - Squeaky window seals, replaced by dealer.

Brakes are a little squeaky right now, but thats my fault. I run my car fairly hard when I'm driving, and its held up well so far. Gonna probably need new tires before too long, but it can make it through the winter at least.

oct 2001 purchased
2001-2002 various recalls
jul 2003 DPFE sensor goes out resulting (suposedly) in the engine blowing the water pump out and overheating (GF drivin car at the time) Took Stealership 3 weeks to replace.
oct 2003 DPFE replaced, my expense
Dec 2003 Brakes
Feb 2004 Tires

Bought a 2002 ZTS Mach Edition (sedan) liquid grey in July 2002. Not sure of the milage, maybe 20 or so. Drove it for 36K + miles, never had one issue. Sold it in August and bought an 04 Mazda Rx-8 with 17 miles on it. Havent had a problem with the 8 either.
