Hi all,

Has anyone fitted the European fuel/info computer that replaces the coin tray in the dash on the higher spec European Focuses into their NA Focus?

I have a 2003 Comp Orange Euro SVT, and am thinking about replacing the auxiliary dials where the coin tray usually is, with the computer.

I have got pretty much all the part numbers I need to get all the bits ordered back in the UK (The required new turn signal stalk that has the "Info" button, ice sensor, and of course a LHD version of the computer), but wondered if anyone else has ever attempted this?

I figured as well that the computer's instant and average MPG readings might be calibrated to Euro gallons instead of US... but that doesn't bother me, since I'm used to them

Is it possible to get this unit from a LHD country that gets the European Spec Focus, such a Germany? Seems that would be easier than trying to fab the RHD gauge surround to the LHD surround. Other than that, Good luck with it. I'm interested in hearing how it goes.

They're available on the Ghia models. I've seen the stalk on ebayUK and the display also, but it's for RHD as you know already. It might not be so plug and play...the auto climate control is another thing that looks like it'll just pop right in, but it doesn't.

Browsing around eBayUK pulled this:

Has a topic on FFOC about adding it to the european models. I doubt we have the plug on our harness tho.

Yes, although I can even get the LHD unit from a UK Dealership, part no 1327476 for 139GBP. Since I'm from England, and my Dad used to own an auto shop there, I'm going to get him to source it for me.

The other parts required are the same for both left and right hand drive cars, so I can get those from the UK too.

Yeah, I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that the wiring won't be in place... but I've also read on FFOC that people have added it to their cars without any pre-existing wiring in place... so fingers crossed!!

The slight glitch might be if the SVT has the Black Oak ECU, instead of the EEC-V, maybe the signals won't be their for the computer to read.... gotta look into that side further though, time to get reading

Reading from FFOC, has anybody looked for this wiring harness that is supposedly taped to the backside of the support brace behind the instrument cluster? It seems like that is the main harness that is needed to hook into the display, so if that is there, but the sensor wires are not, looks like you might be on a coast downhill toward the Ghia computer.

Furthermore, a guy posted he had a 2000 2.0L Zetec and had all the wiring in it already, just needed the bezel, display, and 2 sensors and he was done. I have my hopes up, but this might be rather cool if it was completed.

I've not had chance to take my cluster out yet... but since the NA Focus is built in a different place to the Euro, I'm figuring they didn't carry the complete wiring looms over, so I'm not pinning my hopes on the connectors being in place. Afterall, if things like the rear light clusters have different connectors to the Euro ones, it makes you wonder what else was changed and/or dropped when bringing the Focus to the NA market.

Although..... things like the Radio connectors ARE the same, so who knows

- I need to get outside in this cold weather and start poking around. (I've turned into such a wuss since moving here!!! - I withstood low temperatures much better back in the UK!
