Red car needs a drivetrain, and I'm exploring FWD oriented AWD setups.

1st/2nd Gen AWD Eclipse drivetrains cought my eye... good power potential.

Has anyone tuned, or seen potential problems in this setup?

Otherwise theres always the SR20DET GTI-R Pulsar AWD. But thats going to be more money, and very hard to source good parts.

Sure about that? 5sp... not auto.
 
justin i got one word for u... crankwalk.. the 2nd gen eclipse/talon 4g63t motors had a slight issue... the first gens were alot stronger as a 6 bolt rather than 4 bolt mains. not to mention thicker/fatter connecting rods, etc. the 14b stock turbo is a huge restriction as well... go to a new evo 16g and that should yield at least a 30-40 whp gain. injectors, safc, datalogger and a few other things and ud be golden...buddy of mine ripped off a 13.001 @ 105.82 here earlier this year and only paid 3300 for car and mods combined. (1st gen 92 eagle talon tsi awd 5 spd)

Ya... Im thinking 1st gen it is. I read up on the crank walk thing.. I believe they refer to those motors as a 7bolt.
 
you can buy remanufactured blocks that replace the check valves with squirters. that pretty much takes care of the crank walk. about the trannies, the project GS-T was making 25#'s of boost on the factory 5-speed and stage 4 clutch. was still running fine till the day it was sold.
 
crankwalk is almost not a problem with 1G cars. The 2nd gen DSM is almost guranteed to get crankwalk.
 
just replace all of the mitsubishi parts and you should be ok.
 
i had issues going into 2nd in my 91 GSX... and after making any kind of real power, i hear many are going through axles pretty quick.

im a bit curious about the check valve > oil squirters tho. those are the ones that spray the bottom of the piston, as in mazda F series engines as their cousins, right?
 
I believe so, yes. IIRC, there is an upgrade to the bearing oil system also.
