Sometimes it's really anoying, I do wear my seat belt but I just want to turn it off so it doesnt ring. Anyone know how? Please explain. Thank you!
Unplugged "it"? I'd think unplugging the connector for the seat belt receptacle would cause an open and indicate the seatbelt is always disengaged. Or, did you unplug something else?I just reached under the seat and unpluged it![]()

Dayyum. This seat replacement/airbag light thing becomes increasingly complicated every time I open a related thread!Have fun flying through the windshield there buddy.I just reached under the seat and unpluged it![]()
The seatbelt plug under your seat functions in both tensioning and airbag deployment. In the event of a crash your ass is going right into the steering wheel or even the window.
Unless you feel like becoming another Darwin Award winner, I'd plug that back in. If not, well I won't feel sorry for you.

If ours is like most cars. The spool the seatbelt winds onto has gears on both sides. Under the side gears in a plate that connects under the spool and has a weight pendulum attached. When you jerk the belt, the intertia from the pull causes the gears to catch the plate as it is swung forward. The plate locks into the gears and stays put. Or when you slam on your brakes the weight intertia keeps going swinging the plate and catching the gears, then locking the belt in place.Another is related to the seat belt being engaged. I've read here that another detects the airbag. I suspect the tensioning sensing is down in the seat-belt retractor. It provides tension when jerked. Or is it more complicated than that? I'm just speculating. Does it only tension when someone is sensed in the seat?
This makes sense to me. My car is in this shop right now, but we tested the tensioning by tugging on the belt and it locked as expected despite the seat being removed and the connector completely disconnected. If ours is like most cars. So, I take it that the following is a misrepresentation of the situation:

You are describing the "Keys are in the Ignition and you've opened the door" chime, not the "Seat Belt not worn" chime, if it is silenced by closing the door switchI always wear my seatbelt. Always.
However, say that a freind and I or myself are working on my car, adding something or what not we turn on the car, its in the driveway hood open, doors open we might be looking in the fuse box or something, that damn sounds annoying we end up shoving pens in the door.
Then, when we close the door, the pens die because we forget to take them out and they break lol. So which is it? Would you rather me disable that annoying sound or more pens have to die? I don't need a reminder to put my seatbelt on since I always do it.
There is something quirky with your car if you can't disable the Seatbelt Minder system (but I guess you know that already!Ok, I always wear my seatbelt as well. The reason I want to disable the chime is because sometimes I sit in my car with it running to organize my stuff or to figure out where I need to go next, etc etc. Whatever it may be, I want my AC/Heat on w/ tunes if I'm not on the phone and I don't want to be restrained by my seatbelt, and if the car is on and the belt not buckled, it chimes every 30 seconds and is really annoying. So what can I do?
Thanks
Matt
Hmm lol, yeah I posted that and realized wow thats not the seatbelt chime. :You are describing the "Keys are in the Ignition and you've opened the door" chime, not the "Seat Belt not worn" chime, if it is silenced by closing the door switchI always wear my seatbelt. Always.
