Was up at my local Ford dealership a couple of days ago when a friend of mine drives in with his '04 ZX5. Has a cracked front bumper and a little damage on the passenger side. Anyway, he went out & started his car the other morning to warm it up, went back inside for a few minutes, came back and it was gone. Some moron from up the street where he lives decided he liked it and just took it. Lucky for the him the police were able to recover the car a couple of days later about 45 miles away. He is an older guy, (yes older than me), is a custodian at the middle school, and believe it or not, it was his first "brand new" car he ever owned. He loves the car, but since it was stolen, he feels so violated, he just wants to get rid of. Bad Karma & all that. Don't know how I really feel about that. Anyway, we talked at length that day with "Joe" his salesman, and I think he will end up keeping it and getting it fixed. Just a crappy thing to happen.

My ex-girlfriend had her Miata stolen when she was at a party one night by the younger brother of the guy throwing the party. The kid took off with it and ranit into three cars and a ditch before running home and trying to deny it. One of the girls that was puking in a bush out front saw him take off.

Sorry to your friend, glad to hear the car is back. Id feel violated too if someone took my car. But I do know that it would take some serious electronic equipment for a thief to "steal" a focus.

Just curious... Seems like every stolen focus story ive read here involves the keys being in the car.

IIRC, because of the P.A.T.S. , my insurance doesn't consider the car "stolen" and won't do anything for me if the car is taken while the keys are in it.

Driving away in a car that doesn't belong to you without the consent of the owner is stealing in my book, but I do think that some people should USE the great security system that ford gave us.

I fell horrible for the car owner, but HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE! I would NEVER leave my keys in a running car. I dont even keep any cds in there.
Well gee, where do you live ?

Where I live we do this when its cold. I see my neighbors do it all the time, I do it too.

There isn’t much choice in this matter when you car is covered in sheets of ice and u need to melt it off before u can even drive the car. You have to be able to see out the windshield which u can’t do with ice covering it.

Now I usually carry both keys with me so if I have to start the car at work I can start it, and then lock the door. (in the focus u need the second key since the remote is disabled when the car is on)
Now if I don’t have the spare key I move the car to the front of the building where there is a security camera. (honestly I usually do this anyway)

I did just fine in northern Jersey with that (well, not that one) and not letting my car idle away while I was inside.

What is this strange object you present me!

But seriously when I get of work at 11:30pm I just want to go. I just run out there and let my car warm up wile I finish up at work. I also let the car warm up enough that all the electronic actually work in the car, and let the car warm up I don’t feel like I’m going to get frost bite by holding the steering wheel!

I think Maryland has a law against leaving a car running, because of such things.
Yep, Tacoma, WA, has such a law. We have a lot of thieves too. Sad, but I find it much more difficult to have sympathy for someone so stupid.

hrmmmm.. When i leave my car running to warm up and de-Ice.. Well im standing right inside the door watching the car.. This way if someone tries anything I will see them coming up to the car in the first place...

If your worried about 5 minutes of your time sitting and watching your car from a warm place... Then maybe you should take a buss or something... Cause I know 5 minutes of my time is well worth the price considering how much it would cost to replace/repair the car if it was stolen...

I live in Pittsburgh. And yes, I put on some gloves and scrape the ice off before I drive it. Its not that hard.

Famous last words. What, are keys like too heavy to carry around, or something?

Pretty much every state has a law about leaving the key in a running car. States seem to make alot of laws to protect people from themselfs, but really don't enforce them.

Nothing better than making it easy for someone to take off with the car.
