Most, if not all short ram intakes yield roughly the same amount of power. It pretty much comes down to how much you are willing to spend. IMO, $170 is alot for Steeda's or AEM's. That is not saying that they are bad, but lets be honest, to pay $170 and only gain 2-4 at most, no way. I bought myself a Cartech short ram for $125 and love it. I would rather spend $125 vs. $170.

Yeah just using a panel filter with the resonator removed works just fine. I don't think it is worth the money to buy a intake. The only reason I got the AEM Short Ram was because I got it for $50 on ebay

As far as a heat shield, It may work a little but won't cure it all together.

It's most often referred to as "the snorkel".

I doubt it does anything for performance but the intake roars a little when removed.

I think the only real power adder in this case is going to be the one that forces colder air into the engine. Gains will be negligible and hardly noticed, but hey, it looks cool.

Better is a very generic term. Do you want horsepower and improved throttle response at the expense of noise and probably some increase in intake air temp? The AEM at only 3 hp would make the K & N typhoon (at somewhere between $180-$190 in my research) look pretty good. I know the wheel hp gain for the K & N Typhoon is 5.6 hp. Not sure what the K & N Aircharger gains are (the Aircharger uses a plastic tube instead of metal) but I figure they're better. Be advised, all of these make induction noise, so there's the most significant trade off.

I looked, I asked questions, I chose the K & N Aircharger ($219.00), build quality and hardware were excellent, and so far the driveability improvement is noticeable. When I get a chance to run for the horizon, I hope to be grinning large......

My steeda intake only cost me 140 shipped.. And I am overly satisfied with my intake. I might try out an inverted top K&N filter down the road. I had one in my previous car and loved it, so it's worth a shot.

From where? I'm in the market.

I think back in the day the price was around $140 and now it is $170. Because about a year ago when I had my 03 SVTF I bought a Steeda and payed $136 + shipping. However I don't think you will find one now for that price.

I am very happy with my AEM short ram intake, not so much for the power, but it gives a nice sound when you mash the gas. i feel that the $170 is better than spending $400 for a cat back exahust. BTW i picked mine up on ebay for about $115, so just keep your eyes open for a good deal

If you want a intake I would buy one used. You can get some good prices if you watch the for sale section or look on ebay. Since they don't offer huge gains I wouldn't pay full price for one!
