What is the stock Valve Lift for the 2.0L Zetec?

ALso are there drop in cams available for the Zetec? If so , who which model/part number? (price?)

At what point do cams start to cause valve/piston clearance issues on a stock head/block? Over .400" lift?

NO CAMS ARE "DROP IN"

I dunno if anyone has clayed any pistons to see if >.400 is causing interference... since the engine is non-interference I'm willing to bet that the .413s that are out on the market are fine.

Let me try to be a little more clear than just the phrase "drop in". - What cams can be installed without changing valve springs and without machining the head, or removing the head?

Are there valve springs that can be installed without removing the head and no machining of the head needed? Using compressed air to keep valves up/closed or the old rope in the spark plug hole method.

Zex advertises their cams as working with stock valvetrain and theri lift is .381, so does anyone have these installed?

ZEX™proudly introduces three new nitrided cam designs for the FordZetec 2.0L DOHC engine. Through extensive R&D, the ZEX™engineeringteam developed exclusive Xtreme Energy™lobe designs to achieve theultimate performance for your Ford Zetec engine. Specifically designed
for three different engine RPM ranges, these camshafts are sold in pairs
to insure the most complete component-matched performance and dri-
vability. The ZEX™Ford Zetec 2.0L camshaft sets are designed to workwith stock valve train components, making for a simple “drop-in” instal-
lation. Like every ZEX cam, the Ford 2.0L camshafts are manufactured
to the strictest tolerances.

I have .448 lift on the intake and .440 lift on exhaust and there is no clearance problems. I have had them both advanced to 10degrees and retarded 10 degrees from 0 and neither had problems. Crower recomends valves springs on stage 3 and stage 4 cams, stage 1 and stage 2 are drop in. Stage 3 and 4 need exstensive head work to make them fit. I believe all cam manufactures say there stage 2 cams are drop in and do not need new valve springs.

Keep the lift under .390 on stock springs. You shouldn't have any claerance issues. With bigger valves the higher lift over .400 cams get close. All of the Comp or Zex cams will work. The Stage 2 make a good range of power.

Is there a VFAQ on cam swap/installation anywhere. I think I'll take excessive number of pics while swapping out the stock cams with a set of comp or zex. My remaining question is on the lash pads that need to be moved around/replaced to keep the gap between cam and valve in that .06 intake and .010 exhuast.

I installed FR3 cams (.390" lift)and milled the head .040". Still had adequate piston-valve clearance. The bigger problem may be having to slightly grind the tappet bores for cam lobe clearance. Not much is needed, but I wouldn't do it with the head on for fear of metal filings in the engine. Focus Zetecs have no valve clearance shims. You have to swap the buckets around and/or buy some additional ones. I was lucky to be able to swap mine around.

The head and block are the stock hieght. neither have been milled down that is why I have 9:1 compresion. The valves are 1mm larger but that is the only thing different in the combustion chamber. Stage 2 cams will be your easiest dropin with the most gains.
