Hold up..WTF?!

Okay so I'm trying to see when I can afford a fuel pump (if it turns out my fuel pump is going) and I'm looking at fordparts.com.

Well they have one

FUEL PUMP, Focus, To 12/6/01 00-02 $110.06

And another

FUEL PUMP, Focus, From 12/6/01 02-04 $193.15

Now what exactly is that 83 dollar difference?

They improved the pump at some point. You can read about it in the Powerworks thread in the FI forum from a few months ago. The newer, improved pump requires a different PCM flash, so it's not a DIY project if you want to upgrade.

I suggest PM'ing FORDSVTPARTS (Steve) to get more details, and to compare prices - he probably won't know the details of the reflash, but he can figure out what parts will work with your particular Focus.

And now for the obvious question: if the pump is failing, why not just get it replaced under the extended fuel pump warranty/recall?

Does the extended warranty/recall extends on a 2002 model? As far as I know it's only for the 00-01 models.

Oh, in that case you probably already have the revised pump, but I dunno.

So I take it your powertrain warranty is expired?

Well anyway, get in touch with Steve to be sure you get the correct pump. He's a good guy, so he'll probably figure out the part number for you even if you don't buy it from them (their prices are good, though - 10% over cost). Labor is going to be the killer anyway (either in dollar cost or your own time spent doing the work).

Since the new pump was in 02+ models, and he has a 2002, I'd say he has the updated one and the proper ECU flash..

StayFocused just posted this over in Team Tech:

The transition to the new pump was done on 12/06 of 2001. So some of the 2002 model year had the old pump. How do I know? My car was built on 12/1. I had the old pump. BTW, the new pump requires a new tank as the hold down clips are different.

l337raceryo - you can check your car's build date. Or better yet, if the tank changed, you should be able to get the part # off the tank to be sure you get the right pump to go with it.

Well my car was built in 06-02 so basicly...I have no idea.

But whats stopping me from using the SVT pump?

I understand that there is some minor modification needed to make the SVT Pump work. And my car was built in 4/02 and had an old pump that went bad on me... not covered by the extended warranty.

Hey 1337raceryo its Derrick from autocross. You might wnat to ask LEDzx3 I know his is an 02 and he got his fuel pump replaced under the extended warranty. He was able to send me info on it.
