Hey guys... looking for some ideas here. I'm looking to move the cigarette lighter to the glove box... so i can run my MP3 player without the cord running all the way across the dashboard to the glovebox.
now... there are a couple options here:
1. there's a powersource I'm missing...? I don't have my focus yet... hopefully will on friday, but i didn't do a search on my test drives for power sources... this little problem only occurred to me yesterday
2. Remove the lighter from the stock location... and just relocate it in the glovebox... this leaves me with... has anyone done anything with this little area? any ideas of what i can place in there? I can custom make something from fiberglass in there... but i'm thinking something like a storage area will just be too small for use. and a coin holder will just look really odd there.
3. Anyone hardwire another powersource in their glovebox? if so... a how-to maybe? this is my favorite option... doesn't destroy anything OEM... and everything will be nice and hidden in the glovebox.

For modest power needs, I love using the blower motor circuit. It's a 30 amp circuit, so I figure it's got plenty of extra capacity for my Zeitronix boost/EGT/AFR gauge, as well as my future J&S Safeguard installation.

Just "T" off of the ignition power and starter wire. Use the button to control a relay. Didn't make another power source yet, I think I'm going to put it in the center console like the SVT.
This is interesting. The "normal" way is: You put the key in, turn it and the motor starts. Your solution is: You put the key in and turn it. Then you press another button to start the car. Is there any benefits of this system (besides being non-standart)? Or have you disabled the PATS and start the engine using just the button without the need for a key?
Another question: Is there a mechanism to prevent starter motor activation when the engine is running?
And a final recommendation: As far as I can see, the indiglo reverse glow sheet on your instrument cluster does not have the necessary opening at the "high beam indicator lamp" position. Your gaugeface seems to be the same as mine. I have just cut out the necessary opening and further two openings at other sites (after asking the Ebay-Seller). I would recommend such a small but effective correction.

Mine is there just for fun. I can start the car with the key or the button. The one I did in my friends focus, we took out the ignition cylinder and put the PATS chip from the key into the remote FOB. Then hooked the ignition "run" to a switch. So now there is no key needed.

yes. Don't touch the button when the engine is running.

btw, I don't have indiglo reverse glow guages

hm... well... i'm planning on playing and charging my MP3 player (actually... pocket PC) from this outlet... so do you think taking said amount of amperage off the blower will mess with the car a bit?
It shouldn't hurt anything. The worst it will do is blow the blower motor fuse, and that's trivial.

For a ballpark figure, I wouldn't want to draw more than maybe 5 extra amps from the blower circuit, but that's completely arbitrary. Hell, if you were careful not to use the blower at the same time, you could draw 25 amps from that wire! Like I said, the blower circuit is perfect for MY needs - it provides power whenever the ignition is on, even during cranking. And that's important, since my J&S Safeguard will need power during cranking.

Too many wierd off topic posts going on here.

To answer your question/s.
-Go to your nearest autoparts store and pick something like this up:

It will not include the square plate, just the round plug you see in the middle. Shouldnt costs more than $10-$15 USD.
Make sure you have a place in your glovebox to mount this, you must allow for about 3" of room for the plug body.
-Then remove the radio and look for the cigerette lighter wires, they are Orange/Yellow for positive and Ground is Black.
-Pull your wires from the glovebox, I recommend loom them to look nice, behind the radio center bezel and to the wires for the cig. lighter.
-Tap into those wires using either a 3M quicktap or the perfered way and braid them in and solder.
Put everything together and your done.
Here is another so you get the idea:

If the one you find does not include wires, like this one, your positive goes in the middle on that post and the negative goes on the body. Make sure you fuse it.

I am the one that dynomyke was talking about and for the record I was the one that came up with the improvments with push putton start. any way I took out the stearing lock and myke put the pats chip in the fob for me and then put the ignition on a swich. the parts only cost me 15 dollars. I do have a non pats key for the doors just in case and the push button could go any ware you wanted. so it could look like myke's instead of mine. ( diffrent buttons come with diffrent prices and some are wired diffrently )

Silfox: thanks a lot man, i'm definatly going to be looking into this. you think it's possible to tap into the existing wires and run it to the glovebox... leaving the stock location in tact... use both (say charge a cellphone and my mp3 player) without blowing a fuse?

the82ndsky: that's amazing... do you by chance have a writeup on this?

Those are some huge pics.
You should be fine without blowing a fuse.
If you are worried about it, pull the wires from the glovebox to the fuse panel and tap into the fuse labled "RearPower Point/SVT Only" in your manual.
Use one of these to tap into to fuse:

These are made by Wirthco and can be found at some autparts and electronics stores.

Hey the82ndsky:
asking the question would be dumb because it obviously works for you to have the key fob velcro'd to where the pats signal pickup is. I tried this when I was putting in my remote starter during testing and it wouldn't work to hold the key right up to the ignition cylinder. Even having the transducer ring from the bypass module loosely around the cylinder wouldn't work. It had to be right tight around the cylinder and taped in so it wouldn't move at all.
How hard is it to get the chip out of the key?
