I may be talking out of turn... but with the SCT flashers... when you flash an ECU, the unit retrieves the current flash on the unit, replaces it and stores the original.

So if you're gonna flash the ECU.... someone can come in with an XCal2, place a new flash on, keep the old flash stored, and restore the "Spec Flash" after the race all without being detected.

Basically... you're gonna have to tape and paint over the OBD port and the ECU harness if you're really gonna prevent ECU Cheating.
That could basically be solved by having the top 5 finishers report directly to the tech shed for a computer check. No heading to the pits, etc... Kind of like what they do in horse racing, except all jockeys weigh in directly after the race.

Correct and the The top three finishing drivers must proceed to impound immediately after the race

What about sunroofs? Can they be replaced with a piece of lexan or sheet metal?
17.10 Sunroofs or Moonroofs made of glass must be removed. The opening may be covered with an
acceptable material, such as sheet metal, fiberglass, polycarbonate or carbon fiber, which is
securely attached to the vehicle. Metal sunroofs may be retained if additional fasteners are used
to secure them to the vehicle.

Yea, too bad that in a "gentlemen's sport" you can't trust your fellow compeditors to act in a gentelmanly manner. But I understand, it happens in just about every series.

One of the local dirt tracks used to have a "claiming" rule in one of the entry level classes to try and keep people from cheating and spending too much money on their cars. At the end of the race the winning car would be automatically "for sale" to any other compeditor for a few thousand dollars (can't remember the exact ammount but it was set at the beginning of the season). But you'd still hear of people spending '$8k on a motor' that was otherwise supposed to be a stock small block.

Claim rule = goodness. IIRC, there is going to be one in SF (there's one in Spec Neon - 70% of the cost of a new crate motor - and regs are apparently similar).

New Q: Will stich / seam welding be allowed? We're talking about some potentially saggy unibodies here...

Oh yeah, and -- will Ford / Ford Racing make bodies-in-white available? If so - any idea what the approximate cost would be?
I personally don't know of a Focus Bodies-in white program. If they did I would think it would be for World Challenge and/or U.S. Touring Car not for the spec series.

I understand there is No focus body program. The Mustang program was somewhat different.

(Keep in mind that was a product intro, on a very valuable product to the company)

I might be wrong. But, I thought the Body in white turned into the FR500 Program
Well, that might be what happened with the *Mustang* BIW's.

Sadly, doesn't sound like there was much of a Focus BIW deal. Ah, well...

Notice the Shock/Strut/Spring Kit(hint)
You mean...
(emphasis added)

Dynamic Suspensions
3 way adjustable - high/low speed compression rebound
3-way adj? Sweeee-eeeeet!

Long as we wouldn't have to pay that pricetag...

Are the parts packages and pricing going to be available to anyone outside of this particular NASA spec series? As near as I can tell NASA has no presence in the Pacific Northwest.

I'd like to either pick up a second car or start building my current car into something I can move up through the SCCA solo-trials progression of classes (trials to club-level type stuff). If the car is legal for the NASA spec series all the better.

In a perfect world Ford Racing would follow the MazdaSpeed example and give us a great parts program (including these new parts packages), but that might be asking for a bit much at this point.

Quick question without reading all of the above....

I have a highly modified Boosted Zetec ZX3 with a full cage, fuel cell, etc... will there be any sort of "open" class for a Focus like this?
go to the 1st page of original thread i just bumped up.....
