I was in the Ford dealership in Dowagiac, MI getting my oil changed this weekend and happened to see another SVT up on a lift at the end of the garage. When I went over to check out whose car it was I noticed the tranny and quite a few other engine parts laying on the floor. The tech told me the kid grenaded the tranny. Upon further inspection, the pressure plate was shattered in half and something gouged the inside of the bellhousing pretty badly. The tech said the bill would be over $3,000 to have everything replaced because the tranny can't be worked on. The car was an '02 with 28K miles. The only odd thing I noticed on the car were the tires. They were 235/45/17's. They seemed to fit the stock wheels very nicely. I didn't even know that size tire would fit on a 7" wide wheel. The added traction along with the taller tire probably added up to more wear and tear on his tranny. I can feel my clutch starting to grab further up. I think a little bit of preventative maintenance might be in order eventually. I would love to put in a Quaife but I think a fidanza flywheel, and CM clutch and pressure plate will tap out my budget. My condolences to whomevers car this is. It sounds like they should have let off the gas from time to time. Nate.

I doubt the taller tires caused his pressure plate to do that. It proabably was more to the picture there. Who knows maybe the car had mods that were taken off before going to ford. I mean sounds like to much power to the transaxel. But who knows maybe it was just a fluke.

There are updated clutch components (disc, plate, and flywheel) for the SVT through Ford. The original design seemed to have a high failure rate. I believe the updated components became available in mid-2004, and are far superior to the original design. I've seen Getrag bellhousings that were literally cut in half from failures of the original design components.. It's not too unusual. If you have an SVT with the original design components, I'd highly recommend that you upgrade to the new parts.

has anyone ever heard of that happening if they have an aluminum flywheel and stage 2 spec clutch just wondering put alot of money into zx to put in svt tranny and i don't want that to happen

Freak accidents are going to happen but I haven't seen anything like that happening.

will ford honor the upgrade to the non-failing getrag parts under the ESP warranty program?

almost definitely not without a fight dude.

AFTER it breaks, no doubt, but if they don't HAVE to replace it, they won't.

Unless this is like a TSB or something.

there's a place where you can look for TSBs somewhere, but i can't think of it, any help?
