What happened to Chip Herr and the Air Force Reserve race team? They posted very quick times in Practice on Friday, but ran 4 seconds slower in qualifying.. and then never ran in the race?
The Duratec went "pop". Not sure of the details, but they retired pre-race due to engine failure from what I heard.

I figured these race teams had at least one spare motor with them. Especially a team like the Air Force Reserve Ford Focus team... For experienced mechanics, performing an engine swap shouldnt have taken them that much time. Did the engine blow in the pits or out on the track? Maybe it grenaded with too little time before the start of race....

Either way, it sucks. The Focus was running strong in practice, and would have probably finished top 10 if not top 5 with such little rewards weight on-board.

I had some serious fun. Thanks to Kris and Jeff for hosting us and providing someplace other than a cold dark tent to sleep in the wind.

Thanks to Katie for the company and keeping up with me on the drive through 198! Thanks to Brian for the fine cigars and great meat.... Kris for the pilaf, and bacon and eggs, Jeff for minding the grill, Rob and Jen for the beer bread (mmmmmmm doughy goodness) Hale for the poker fun and Tuaca!

I made it home in probably record time. I won't post any speeds, but lets just say that a Porche 911 Turbo S, a BMW M3 and I covered about 40 miles between king city and paso robles in 21 minutes together.

(The M3 pulled into the gas station in Paso Robles with me and was like "Man I didn't know a Focus could keep up like that! told him I had the supercharger) Left the track @ 3:30... got home to Burbank 7:15. 301 Miles.

I had a complete blast out at the track, can't wait to do it again next year!

Brian has surprised and delighted all with exemplary skill, taste and expertise with meat and cigars.

In this light, I think his new title misses the mark; it is very juvenile and unsophisticated.

Any possible way, Your Highness, to re-think his published noblesse?

They were done and packing up on Saturday. My guess is they blew something during qualifying which is why they were down on time, but it would have been irreparable.

Guess they don't bring spare engines.

Did he complain to you or something?

If he did, I'll have it changed.

He is worthy of his new title. The man hooked us up with some serious culinary delight. Not to mention the first cigar I'd had in years (a maduro La Gloria Cubana, most excellent). Not to mention a couple of bottles of great wine.

(I still can't believe I only drank wine, but that's a good thing, right? lol)

(Tuaca.... *shudders*)

Brians meat was fantastic, took me a while to eat it-

- but it was awesome, he is just straight up an awesome and wonderfully cultured individual!

No, Your Grace; he did not.

It's just that perhaps his title is not worthy of him.

It was a 'you had to be there' kind of thing..... we're all at the dinner table, enjoying our tri tip, pork and pilaf, and I blurted out "Brian, I LOVE your meat!" and everyone chuckled, and agreed.... then I said "NEW TITLE FOR BRIAN!"

I think Squier is missing the humor..
Not at all.

I think that you guys may be missing the ugly trend in titles that show little imagination.

Now please, nevermind.

Okay, I think I've recovered from all the decadence of the weekend.
Good wine, fine liquor, excellent food, fantastic company, amazing view, beautiful home.
How do people live like that?

Truly, it was a wonderful time.

Thanks to Jeff, Kristina (and of course Rylie) for the roof over our head, and the beautiful view. Also to Kristina for preparing that hangover breakfast.

Todd, you're a funny dude. Always a pleasure, now get started on FOTB '06!

Lorin, man you put up with a lot of crap! You dish it pretty well too, come to think of it.

Rob and Jen, you guys are just awesome! (such nice people)

Katie, you are so much freakin' fun!

Emily and Lee, have you guys come out of the bedroom yet?

Brian, you are the man. Your new title may be below you, but in your typical style, I know you will laugh and roll with it. You're a class act, regardless of your amazing meat and cigars. Thanks for not letting me drink that whole bottle of Tuaca! (I would have!

)

Thanks everyone! You are a fine group of people!
