if you do this mod, buy a fire extinguisher...

aside from not starting a real 'drift', you'll definitely be starting some real flames:lol:

for a rally car, not fwd drifting???
im just worried that missing the button while doing a hairpin, or having to push the button to release the ebrake might cost an extra 1/4 to 1/2 second (if a mistake were made) and thus easily cause a spin.

what do you mean with the duct tape?
The duct tape was a joke.....

my best guess would be to find a wrecked focus and take the ebrake handle from it and start tearing into it and seeing how hard it would be to force the button in the closed position.

Or I would think you could fab up a handle that holds the button down? :dunno:

I'm sure the assembly will come right apart... the button just controls a tooth in a ratchet mechanism... remove the tooth and you remove the ratchet. It can't take more than 15 minutes to figure it out once the console is off... if that.

I'm a little confused just what your goal is. Is it:

a.) The e-brake moves either direction without the need to push the button, and it stays wherever you put it.

or

b.) The e-brake defaults to "off", but you can pull on it to engage the parking brake, and it will NOT stay engaged unless you hold it in the engaged position.

"a" would be a PITA, but "b" would be a piece of cake - just disassemble the ratcheting part of the mechanism.

Now, if you want the racing functionality of "b", while still being able to use the parking brake to hold the car when it is, well, parked, then that might be a little trickier. You'd need some way to selectively disable the ratchet. But even that would probably be simple. You could just set up a pivoting c-shaped bracket at the end of the brake handle. When you flip the bracket up, it would hold in the release button for you. When you want the brake to stay "latched", you flip the bracket down and out of the way.

Exactly what I was thinking. It would be very simple to remove the racheting part and make it free, but you would lose the ability to leave it up in park. Unless like said, you figured out some sort of seletor.

Kick stand - LOL.

Just stick a beer can under the brake handle. If it pops loose and your car goes rolling down a hill, the cops might charge the car with DWI, though.

Well, maybe not - but Chief Wiggum would haul the e-brake into court.
