"Until you own one you will never understand how much quality and thought is put into this car."

MINI defines a whole new market segment in the US. It is a true "Premium Subcompact". The minute you sit in the car you're surprized at the amount of room in the car. Go for a drive and You feel the build quality. The MINI driving experience is like no other small car I've driven. The feel is not too far off from a BMW 3 series.

Here in the O.C. most of my buyers are between 35 and 65. I have delivered several to 16 year old kids blessed with well-to-do parents who pay for the safety, exclusivity, and high resale value of the Cooper. They did not earn their affluence by spending foolishly. Many have a sport utility, an MBZ, Porsche or BMW in their garage already. They want a small sporty car that doesn't scream "RICE!" or "I'm a high school kid's dream car". All are amazed at the joy the car brings them. They just write the check.

For those of us track junkies on this site...we watch the MINI's carry more speed through the turns than most, and carry it off more effortlessly than most.

The difference is in the engineering. The "art" and safety of the car is just the icing on the cake!
Perfect post, more well said then i could put together as you can see.

Anyone driven a CAB yet? I want to rent a TDi CAB this summer to see what it is like.

I'm a Highschool kid, and it's one of my (many) dream cars...

Edit* I agree with Thameth, you people need to get your crap straight before you post...Think before jo0 post!

I didn't know the One-D came in a cabriolet.

Also, no one laughed at my differential joke. :(

It's a line from the original Italian Job. One of the mechanics fixing up their Minis is "having trouble with his differential."

The trouble is he's looking under the rear end.

k, i've been to autotrader and found supras for 10K. doesn't mean anything.

anyways, i'm gonna goto the Mini dealership here and look at the prices, take pictures, compare them to Mini USA and i'll post again. take that back. i'll be going 2moro cuz tonight i'm going to see the GF> haven't seen her in a few days

one last time, go up, read my post and see what i'm talking about. getting in a fuss over something that i'm not even fully trying to get into

i love you guys

edit] thameth, seriously. i wanna take you with me when i go car shopping then. i can' seem to get anything out of them. they are total jackasses and my patience dwindles significantly every second that i talk to them getting no stright answer. it's like talking to a lobbyist

Your posts scream of utter ignorance. Since when does anyone pay dealer price EVER? I would slap anyone that couldn't get the dealer to reduce the price by atleast 1k, if not 3k. In 2001/2002, we got one of the first Mini's in Georgia, possibly the US. We paid around 17k cash for it... and that was when they first came out. The problem with Autotrader is they've held there value EXTREMELY well, ours is worth like 16k now.

Also, I could care less about straightline power, that Mini will outhandle just about anything out there. Like I said, it feels better than my car even with all of my suspension mods, and thats stock with crappy tires.

And about it being a "real mans" car, who cares? as long as its fun to drive and handles well. Sounds like you need a big V8 or lots of HP and noise to compensate for somthing...

Since when did these cars become straight line contenders?

How fast is your focus????

The mid-low 14s that I wish they did would not make them a straight line contender... that would still make them fairly slow. But, that would make them much more of a sporty car than they currently are with a lot more of a powerband on tap. They (well, at least the S) are built to be a nimble and fun car to throw around, but I can't see the fun in not being able to pull itself out of corners or down the straights. What good is cornering hard if you can't go anywhere when you're through the turn? Don't get me wrong, I love the cars and some of them look great (yours included), but they really need some more grunt and the works package is not cutting it. With the cost of said package, it should have respectable performance numbers.

As for my focus, it was semi quick once upon a time. Now it is back to the duty that it was designed for.... a daily beater. Not a fun car.

If you want a quarter mile car go build one. Quarter mile racing=boaring. I'd be willing to bet a MINI against your RX-7 in a autocross/track race anyday. And the Mini's stock. For a stock car, besides high-end cars, it can't be beat for the price range it's in.

So your comparing a highly modified car against a stock car??? I can find you a few MINI's doing much more than 14 in the quarter...... But again their not straightline cars, i have more then enough fun with my stock HP.

And being fast in a corner has everything to do with how fast your gonna be on the str8.

Don't forget that the rest of us don't necessarily share your view of a fun car. I don't need 400 horsepower to have fun. I don't really even need 100 horsepower to have fun.

That's just the way it is. :)

Dude, the guy doesn't like the car. Why are you all trying to change his mind? He's the one that has to live with out it, not any of you. Why does it matter if he doesn't want/like it for HIS reasons. It shouldn't matter if HIS reasons don't work for you.

It doesn't matter if he likes it quite frankly. The matter is that he is basing the opinion of the car off the fact that the performance in an area that this car is not meant to be the bread winner in is the main deciding factor on what makes it a "real performer." Not all cars are straight line fast, we know this. Hell, out of the 20k or so members here, I doubt that more than a small handful know what his version of fast is. The Mini is a turning car, plain and simple. Anyone basing the ideals of its performance off anything else is not looking at the good qualities of the vehicle.

EXCUSE me? Where did you get the idea we were trying to change his mind?

Honestly, I'd rather he didn't agree. It makes a better conversation point.

The fact is, he hasn't made any good points at all:

impractical yes, very. more so than a moped. and i love me mopeds (vepsa RULE). i'll take me for instance. i have a bunch of friends. say i wanted to goto a party and 3 people wanted to come then fine. i can fit up to 4. i can't see anymore than that from what i've seen in the interior. now of course as we all know everything to do with a party is unplanned. from the keg to who comes to when it starts to when you find out. so vis-a-vis (man i wanted to say that somewhere) that means that someone else wants to come where no on else has a car. you gotta carry the keg and beer and what-have-you.

i guess going to the party is going to be a very pain in the ass event. at least when you get there it'll be better.
Like this^^ The car is impractical because you can only fit 3 other people in it if you are going to a party? It is impractical because you can't go camping with a lot of gear and people in it? I guess that would make just about every sedan impractical then...How often do you party or go camping compared to the amount of times you drive your car alone?

Seriously dude...perhaps you should look into getting a Hemi-Minivan. It sounds like that is the "practical" thing for you. A crapload of un-necessary horsepower, and room for 7!!!

:dunno:

I can understand if you say "I don't like it. I think it is ugly...It doesn't suit my needs because I haul 6 drunk retards around every day." But to say it is flat out impractical is somewhat moronic.
