Santa Cruz Mountain Twisty Day 1/29 *NEW MEETING LOCATION*
Alright guys, now that I have my car back I'm ready to take her out and play. I should be getting a new clutch in the weekend before this, so I'll try and break her in during the week and then we can have some fun. I pieced together a route a few nights ago that combines my two favorite roads in the bay area, so it should be a great time.
The cruise will start in Palo Alto at Noon near Stanford, please be sure to eat beforehand, there are plenty of places to choose from as you take Page Mill up from the freeway. We will then go straight up Page Mill Road into the mountains, Page Mill is an awesome road, lots of tight twisties and should be a blast going uphill. At the end of Page Mill, we will make a left onto Skyline, and follow that south for a ways, until we hit Bear Creek Road, which is a quick assault of tight hairpins through the trees that will ultimately dump us down above HWY 17 at Lexington Reservoir.
We can stop and take pictures next to the water, and then carry on to Old Santa Cruz Highway, my personal favorite road in the whole Bay Area. Tight, twisty, and carving it's way through the Redwoods, it is truly enjoyable. Old Santa Cruz Highway then turns into Old San Jose Road, which is a nice cruising road with rolling, cambered turns and will be a nice cool down to end the drive. Old San Jose then dumps right into downtown Aptos. Once we are in Aptos, where we can go is slightly difficult, as the area is always packed, and parking for restaurants is normally a joke. However, there is a public parking lot (I believe it is free, will double-check) above downtown Capitola, that is normally pretty empty, that we could park at, and then walk into downtown Capitola. Whatever the group feels like doing.
