herb chambers the largest local dealer bought 3 of these! but unfortunatley there is only 2 left.
the women is still in critical condition.
WORCESTER – A 26-year-old woman was injured and had to be extricated from a wrecked sports car last night after it went out of control on Belmont Street and crashed into a utility pole, officials said.

Elizabeth Chambers, 26, of 197 Eighth St., Charlestown, was taken by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center — University Campus and treated for face cuts and multiple scrapes and bruises, according to Sgt. Matthew C. Early of the Operations Division. A nursing supervisor said she was admitted and was in stable condition.

Sgt. Early said the car was driven by her husband, George Chambers, 39, of the same address. He was shaken up but did not require medical treatment, police said.

Sgt. Early said the sports car, a Ford GT with a Herb Chambers dealership plate, was traveling east on Belmont Street when the crash occurred about 5:45 p.m.

It was apparently traveling about 60 miles per hour in a 30-to-35-mile-an-hour zone, he said, when itwent out of control, went over the curb and sidewalk, struck and broke a curb at the Hess gas station and then went airborne before slamming into a pole. The impact of the crash tore the pole with its large concrete anchor from the ground. The car then dragged the debris to Frank Street and stopped. Firefighters cut Mrs. Chambers from the wrecked vehicle.

“Speeding was definitely a factor,” Sgt. Early said.

A salesperson at a Herb Chambers dealership said the Ford GT currently lists for $166,000 but demand and scarcity have pushed the selling price to double or more than the list price. The car is modeled after the famous Ford GT-40 that won the 24 Hours of LeMans, a sports car endurance race, four times in a row, from 1966 to 1969, according to racing fans.

No it was not you damn tool :lol Speeding will be a factor in a supercar, when that car is doing 100 in a 25. It's all about the ability of the driver. If the speedlimit is 30, then 60 for a supercar is nothing.

It did THAT much damage only going 60mph??!?!?

Do not kid yourselves, 60 is fast and will do some damage.

A 60 mile-per-hour impact is exponentially worse than a 30 MPH impact.

Why is it that all 'government' offset frontal impact testing is done only at 40 MPH? 'Cause there'd be little left to scrutinize after a 60 MPH offset frontal impact, that's why.

I'd insert a smilie somewhere in here, but it's prolly inappropriate when discussing damage and injuries. :dunno:

As I like to say to people who say this....
take 5 steps back from a brick or concrete wall, then run as fast as you can into it. I guarentee you will only be doing 2-3 mph before you hit.

Also remember that energy is the mass times the square of the velocity (simplified). In this case going from 30 to 60 represents double the square. Or about 4 TIMES the amount of power, which is nothing trivial.

I wasn't refering to the damage to the car (I'm not surprised at that), I was refering to the fact that it ripped a concrete post from the ground (after hitting other items, also concrete) and then dragged said post along with it.

When driving a car into a brick or concrete structure usually its the car that loses the fight unless theres alot of weight (how much does a GT weight?) or more velocity then was reported...

Also it traveled a fair distance after the collisions

haha, you don't know what exponentially means.

smooches

too bad it wasn't driver's side impact

The damage done to a vehicle upon striking a solid object is directly proportional to the kinetic energy which must be dissipated when it stops. Kinetic energy is equal to one half the mass of the vehicle times its speed squared. Therefore, as speed increases linearly, energy (and thus damage) increases geometrically, meaning that a 60 mph impact is exponentially worse than a 30 mph impact.

no, you are explaining the acceleration to impact. the force needed to stop the mass.

exponential is any number raised to an unspecifed number. so like 2^x. meaning that over time (which this would take place) the number grows exponentially. or really really fast. that, is not what would happen here. this is more of a regular increase or something like that.

my physics is wicked rusty because i hate going back to it. but who cares. i was just pulling his chain anyways.

smooches bitch
