So a "respected" Ford tech sees my newly installed SRI and jumps down my throat telling me I should take it off cuz im actually losing power due to it sucking in hot air. Now hear me out, im not one to call anyone one a liar until I see proof behind thought. So thats why im asking you my fellow Jetters, share some light on this topic, post some before and after dynos with the SRI. Anything to clear up the topic...

BTW, please don't jump up and call this guy an idiot or anything like that. Like I said before, he is a "respected" tech as he has helped me out a lot in the past.

thanks guys!

The SRI is obviously not going to receive the flow of fresh, cool(relatively) air that a true cold air will, but his logic sounds a bit one-sided. I think the consensus is that ANY well-designed short-ram will FLOW better than the stock setup. The reality is that a cold air will likely only net you 1-2 hp peak anyway. Most folks who run a short ram on the SVTF are using the stock snorkel to funnel a bit of cooler air to the SRI, or an improvised setup to do the same. You should NOT be losing hp. Likely you aren't gaining much, but you know it sounds better :)

I'm sure he's very knowledgable about the products he works on, just may have been misled by popular opinion.

Just agree with them that yes it pulls in more hot air.
However also let them know that the very small (and it is very small) difference in true IAT (Intake Air temps) is a small price when you consider the increase FLOW allowed by the SRI over the very restrictive stock air box :)

And we have proven dyno gains.
Go look at AEM's site. Their SRI gains 2 whp.
K&N's short ram says 7 HP (I dont think it's right)
Steeda says like 5 HP for their SRI....

Basically, the moral of the story is. Flow > IAT's when NA

You forgot to raise your hand... ;) J/K

I bought my car with the short ram already installed so i really cant compare to stock.
If i was to have bought the car with the stock intake i think i would have kept it, and just threw a K&N replacement filter in it. In my opinion the stock intake is not as restrictive as some might think.
There is a noticeable power loss driving in traffic in hot temperatures with the A/C on.
It does sound nice though, however nice sound does not always = more power
You cant always trust a companies claims to power increases, its pretty easy to make a dyno show a gain that might not actually be there

I believe Focus Fanatic magazine did a comparison on the Dyno of the three options.
1) Stock
2) K and N replacement filter
3) K and N Aircharger SRI.
The numbers weren't huge but the increases were there with the Aircharger being the best and that is a static Dyno test so the temperatures were probably pretty high under the hood.
I am not sure which issue, probably spring last year.

I dont see using a SRI on an NA engine a big deal with the IAT's but I still dont think I would use anything but a CAI for FI.

FWIW I saw on the Kenne Bell website that they would VOID your warrenty on their SC's for using a SRI, they said it pulled in too much hot air.
