actually, it was my first time to drag ever. I AM ADDICTED! I know that I don't have a drag car, but I'm hooked anyways. I felt pretty good about my first run. It was unfortunately my best one of the day, but I can't wait to go back and improve. I think I can get down to 15.3 w/ practice.

reaction----1.1072
60 FT----2.4069
330FT----6.676
1/8 ET---10.197
1000ET---13.254
1/4---15.832
1/4 MPH---86.77

my mods are a FS cool flo and screamin demon wires. I have an ORP and a tune waiting to be put on the car so I don't think I can wait for those before going back. I think I will wait for the ORP. I might uninstall the tune for my first run back and then put it on subsequently just to see the difference. I know that any mods will make the car faster, but I want to see what the car is capable of at each step of the way!

a question:
What am I looking for in a good 60 FT? I am assuming that some wheelspin is good to launch and then I want my speed to match my rpms once I have full traction. Should I be feathering the clutch to keep up the wheelspin all the way to 60 feet OR, should I be trying to keep the wheelspin to a minimum?

Ideally when launching you should be right on the threshold of wheelspin without actually breaking traction. You do this by trying to keep revs high so you make good power and allow the clutch to slip to get as much of that power to the wheels as possible without spinning. Some people swear by some wheelspin but simple physics proves that the amount of power you can put to the ground while spinning wheels is less than you can put down when safely below the wheelspin threshold.

Thats just math though. Real life is different. The only way to know for sure is to work on your launches. To prep for the drag strip you may want to consider an accelerometer based performance meter like an Autometer DPic or a G-Tech. They are not 100% accurate but more than enough for you to practice 60' times and figure out what works and what doesn't. Just remember traction on a drag strip is leaps and bounds above traction on normal pavement.

Nice 1st run BTW.

my times actually got worse after getting a tune, since it caused me to have a lot more wheelspin. These cars are hard to get off the line

I ran a set of drag radials for the first time last wednesday, and that helped a bit... now its all about practice. I need to stop modding for a while and just get used to the car...lol

Scott_SVT your signature is way to long:eek:    only allowed six lines including spaces.

Actually it's still seven lines. Just trying to save you the trouble of getting told by a moderator or something. I got told about it also.

DOH!! forgot my production number up there...lol fixed..

By the way, so that this isn't a TOTAL threadjack (not started by me, or at least not on purpose)

here's my 1st time out w/ the nitrous set-up last wednesday (also 1st time on the drag radials)

r/t .233
60' 2.401
330' 6.512
1/8 9.810 @ 74.88mph
1000' 12.611
1/4 15.001 @94.87

Obviously, I have a lot of work to do in launching the car, but I'm happy with the setup, so now its just practice, practice...

 Shouldn't you be in the 14's without the nitrous?

Those numbers look pretty similar to mine. Whats hurting you just the same as myself is the launch. 2.4 60' isnt great. Rule of thumb is every tenth you save off your 60' you shave 2 tenths at the end. Get that 60' to 2.2(definately doable with street tires) your looking at 15.4 or so. Ive given up on drag racing, Auto-x is WAY more fun. On a side note your trap speed is a bit low, perhaps you let off a little early? You would probably be between 88 and 90mph at the end

Oh and changing tunes on the fly like that wont prove anything. The tune will need time to learn.

I should be, but so far haven't gotten there... admittedly, this my first FWD car at the dragstrip, but I think I've modded faster than I've learned how to launch it. So now I'm gonna try not to add anything more for a bit, and learn to use the car's full potential.

Good deal. You'll get into the LOW 15's easy with practice. I broke my car in ever so gently, and pulled off a 15.3 stock. Keep at it, and congrats.
