The potentially fake ZTS thread got me to thinking: Any FJ members caught dealers trying to sell a ridiculously fake car?
About a year ago (shortly before I bought my Focus), I stopped by a dealer that had a Contour on their lot. This one had a small, unobtrusive, but not exactly factory-looking "DOHC Supercharged" badge on the trunk lid and front fender.
Me: Is that Contour really supercharged?
Sales lady: Yes. We have a mechanic inspect all our cars.
Me: Could I have a look under the hood?
SL: Sure.
She grabs the keys, we head out to the lot, and I pop the hood. Sure enough, there is what appears to be a bone stock Zetec under the hood.
Me: Ma'am, this Contour doesn't have a supercharger.
SL: I guess our mechanic hasn't had time to look at this car - we just got it.
Of course, two weeks later the car had not moved from its parking space and it still had the Supercharged badges.
