After an 18 year hiatus, the Olympus International Rally makes its return to the Northwest as Round 4 of the United States Rally Championships! As some of you may know, the Olympus Rally used to be a World Rally Championship (WRC) event in the 1980s and featured the famous "Killer B" rally cars until the event was canceled. Now the Olympus Rally name has been awarded back to the northwest rally organizers and we are bringing the event back as part of a national rally series!
As a Stage Captain, I am looking for a few good volunteers to help us secure rally roads in the Shelton, WA area for the resurrected Olympus International Rally! This will be a great opportunity to see rally racing from an insiders perspective while helping the organizers fill some important functions for a rally race to take place.
We need mainly need :
Rally Marshalls - Block off incoming road to rally stages and watch rally cars from your own personal corner. Marshalls also are the first response to any rally cars that need assistance.
There are also other positions to help launch rally cars and recording their times as they cross the finish line.
I am going to be running a closed course rally stage at the re-opened Thurston County ORV Park, which is going to be a great location to see an entire rally stage from just one area. I can use some help keeping some of the corners clear or you can just come out to see the stage from the grand stands.
My big stage is on Sunday... 20 miles of gravel near Lake Nahwatzel. I need lots of help to lock down these roads and this one will offer lots of opportunities to see the cars in their natural element.
If you are interested, please email me at anandasiverts@yahoo.com and I will send you meeting instructions, and include your availability and shirt size. We will have a free event t-shirt, which will likely be a nice historical piece to add to any shirt collection!
