Mini Blockbuster: Special $40K Cooper S Sells Out Before Anyone Drives It
OXFORD, England — The two-seater Mini Cooper S Works GP has been sold out of a limited run of 2,000 units before a single customer has driven the car.
The Mini GP is the fastest, most powerful production Mini to date.
Mini said it will display the first GP, number 0001, at the 2006 British International Motor Show in July. The car is priced at $40,648, but it is expected to command a premium when owners begin to flip the cars after delivery.
The Mini GP comes in exclusive "thunder blue" metallic paint with a "pure silver" roof. It is outfitted with JCW 18-inch alloy wheels, dynamic stability control, a multifunction steering wheel, air conditioning and Recaro sport seats. The GP is tuned for 218 horsepower and reaches 62 mph in under 6.5 seconds, with a top speed of 146 mph.
What this means to you: The Mini GP joins an exclusive fraternity of vehicles — including the Ferrari Enzo — that have sold out before their on-sale dates.
