Judging by these pictures, not alot of people bringing cars to SEMA are 'car guys' either. A 'car guy' wouldn't do that to a machine he respected. It's like the automotive version of Hostel. You can almost hear these cars scream.

Don't get me wrong, there's some gorgeous thngs there, and some very nice custom work. But I'm seeing alot more bad than good in those pics.

do you not get what SEMA is about? did you not read my earlier comment? i'm sure what you think is bad ass is total crap to someone else, even here on this board. if you can't appreciate SEMA as a whole, and what the industry has done for 'car guys' and aftermarket companies in general, then you should do some serious research before you post again.

Sema Is to bring all the new product out evan if it's "Ricey" as most people say......
Let there be Rice because without it china would starve !!

To quote the late Naz, as quoted from his FOTM thread:
unfortunately, here is how magazines work:

Anything darker then SI blue simply wont make it

If you dont have bright, custom graphics, simply wont make it.

If you dont have a custom stiched interior, it simply wont make it.

If your engine isnt coated with 3 gallons of chrome, it simply wont make it

THE ONLY REASON that cars that DONT have the above mentioned and make it into magazines is if the magazine is doing a feature on a clean, simple, ride that does what its supposed to OR if you got a hookup...its THAT SIMPLE
Now, the same works for shows like SEMA. It's all about getting your ATTENTION. All of those cars do just that.

I bet someone posted a picture of those clear wheels on some other message board and made fun of them.........

.....someone else saw the picture on that message board and then proceeded to find the company that makes them so he can order a set.

Mission successful.

I'll rethink my stance on clear wheels when they invent brake dust-repellant lexan. ;)

Kris, I get what SEMA is about. It's a trade show showcasing the newest products and trends in the automotive industry. I know it's the Mecca for alot of car people. It's a place for craftsmen and -women to present their best efforts to impress.

There's always something at SEMA (or SEMA pics, since I've never been) that's awful by my standards. And of course there's some incredible equipment there that makes my jaw drop.

My point is that the ratio of 'jaw-drop' to 'hurl', or at least 'ehhh' is a little off this year. Alot of what I'm being shown (again only from Autospies' photos, and that may have something to do with it. I've heard other non-jetters lament their photography and choice of subjects) are just not nice things to do to a car.

Opinions vary, I know. But I don't think just because I dislike 30" wheels, or some kinda vacuum cleaner-lookin' xB, or a mostly stock car covered in decals, I should have to have my 'car guy' revoked.

And yes, I envy you greatly the ability to be there firsthand for
the things that DO rock. I'm sure the actual experience is incredible.

Nope, Hyundai:p ....i think it looks 1000times better than a corolla...much better lines and shape (even tho it is very similar, it is the lil things that count)

And absolutely SICK flame/smoke job, was that done be the Man himself?

Why would you want to spend all that money on a super car if they can't even get their own headlight designs?

why would you spend uber amounts of money in R&D to create a headlight design, produce it to legal specs....when you could simply take a headlight from a non-distinguishable common car (well to the normal eye;)) that happens to be a well-designed and hot looking headlight.:dunno:
