I love the legacy, but it's not better looking than the Camry SE

I'd of bought one if it was.

I'm a reader and poster on a much larger toyota forum too, and a great measure of them are crazy, but most of them aren't at all interested in performance.

anyway i'm not the one that posted this thread anyhow. I'm perfectly content to talk about the adorable little focus all day long, but if you're gonna bring my car (or ones like my car) into the conversation, i'm not gonna let someone say things that are blatantly untrue.

yea............wanna buy a real WRX ;)

cuz i dont know what i'm talking about either right? Because i've never driven a different car? because i dont own a focus anymore?

http://forums.focaljet.com/sale/535646-sale-2004-wrx-18g-turbo-modified.html?

ignorance runs rampant on this board :arr:

lol

ok then you want to know the only mechanical difference between a wrx and a 07 camry?

all wheel drive, an engine that makes less horsepower, wrx is 200 pounds or so lighter

i love all wheel drive, but its not a must for a good car

both have 4 wheel strut suspensions with multilink rears

both have chassis strengthening in key areas (mine came with a 3 pt brace for the rear struts, did yours? no it didnt)

ok now that the basics are out of the way

the wrx has stiffer springs, shocks and swaybars.

thats a given.

ok so i put stiffer springs, shocks and swaybars on my camry, as well as more rubber than you can usually even fit under a wrx.

now what are the differences?

the camry still weighs 200 pounds more give or take a little, still doesn't have awd.

So i guess you can still rest assured that you have awd and my camry will never, ever, be all wheel drive, and your heavily modified engine makes more horspower than my bone stock (save for air cleaner) one.

Does that make my car boring?

What exactly makes my car boring again?

What exactly is so different about them?

You can make this comparison with any of the 'respected' "sport sedans" on the market (within reason, no M5's obviously) and you can come to the same conclusion.

Fun is where you make it, my focus was boring as **** stock, yours probably was too, cept for what i said earlier, you could throw it around without feeling bad 'cause it was light.

nice car btw, sorry to see you're getting rid of it, hopefully for a good reason.

(good buddy of mine when i had a VR4 had twin 18g's on his car... car was ****** insane)

and just to be clear, i'm not saying that the wrx isn't a better car to start with for an enthusiast, it has pedigree and polish that the camry doesn't, and likely won't ever, have.

i'm just saying you don't have to have a purpose built performance rig from the factory to have a fun sporty car to drive and have fun with.

i know people that think 'fun' is driving a pickup truck through a muddy field... i just think its dirty.

Appearance is very subjective.
I find the Camry to be OK, but I love the looks of the Legacy.
That doesn't make the Camry a bad car.

I'm not sure why (but I'm not surprised) that this became an anti-Camry thread.
I was just posting up a bit of news I saw on a Legacy forum.

Frankly I was more worried about Subaru when GM had a stake in them.

Actually at the moment I'm most worried about Subaru's OWN ability to design a good looking car. Right now the Impreza looks like ass and let's not even mention the Tribeca. Thankfully they didn't mess up the Legacy.

honestly im surprised to see the stock camry is as fast as it is....although i think it looks bad (this is just my opinion on the styling) it appears for an automatic hauler to get the job done :) I just have a problem using the 2 world "automatic" and "performance" in the same sentence.

After you clear away the sheetmetel, i have to agree with you, about the motor and suspension....come on, we both have to admit a motor like that needs a 6spped Manual ;)

++ my cars for sale because i dont drive it...im away finishing college and it collects dust in the garage lol

Thats very true, it's very subjective.

And i would not be regretting my choice, had i gotten one of those instead.

the Impreza styling is currently (and always has been, truthfully) love it or hate it.

I'm kinda in between. i accept that its not slick and sultry because its a purpose built machine, and in that context I can forgive a lot. does that mean i love the styling? Not so much. But I don't dislike it either.

Legacy's are sexy tho.

dont toot your horn so early about the ungodly awesome camry.....its a family hauler............. go autox it against all these "inferior" cars, you might be surprised
and a focus is not a family hauler?
In europe the focus is exactally what the camry is in the United States. the difference is what most people in those markets consider "sporty" or "peformance. In the EU most people hold handeling as #1 and power second, in the US power is first and handeling is second (given the very different roads) as a result the cars for each market are a little different.

I could not agree more. If one were available, i'd have it, trust me ;)

Glad we can understand each other on this hehe

(looked at your car again, perfect)

we're talkin a bout Prodrive PFF-7 18x8 in gold for our WRX (WR Blue Pearl Metallic)

Thats the car btw.

Very dirty in that pic lol

wheels are on order, patiently (not really) waiting.

^^^ my P1's are amazing........ i have nothing but compliments for prodrive wheels

what are you sticking on the camry? if one thing that car needs its some ncie wheels, the ones on the car right now just dont do it justice

Enkei RP-F1 powdercoated bronze is the plan.

18x8.5

and yes the stock wheels are hideous. P1's are hawt too. the PFF-7's look sexay tho, and they're surprisingly light for the money

17s on right now, yeah thats what i'm hoping.

the wheels also come in at 18.8 pounds, which is pretty good for an 18inch rim

I realize we're all being friendly now but one thing the WRX will have over the camry for sure is ease of power additions. A factory turbo makes it really easy to grab a good amount of power.

I think this calls for teh shovel camry vs. some dude's wrx with the same $$ amount of mods shootout! Someone call SCC.

well i'm not comparing the camry's aftermarket to the wrx's... to do so would be idiocy.

i was arguing the statements that the car isn't fun (which is subjective from the get go).

i have a wrx with same $$ mods so there's no need ;)

well not true, more money in the wrx, but at any rate, bah! lol

point is, the camry has potential, its not just the ho hum grandma car of yore, it's gone in a new direction for the brand, not all camry's are created equal, these days.

actually going with lower profiles to drop ride height more, i'm not gonna be able to do much about the wheel wells till the japanese companies get pumpin on more mod selection for the car (coilovers etc)

WRX has:

Prodrive CAI
Prodrive Exhaust
Cobb AcessPort2
Cobb Adjustable Swaybars
Cobb Adjustable Short Throw w/ momo knob
STi Steering Rack bushings (huge difference, i was shocked)

and we ditched the potenzas for some ES100's after one of the sidewalls on the potenzas shredded on me going 45mph

only pic i have currently online is http://mattgustafson.com/pics/carpics/3.jpg

not very good :p you can see (although blurrily) the camry in the background
